Ja'Nekia W. Barton, Esq. Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Law

Ms. Barton specializes in personal injury matters through the Law Office of Ja'Nekia W. Barton

CLEVELAND, MS, February 11, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ja'Nekia W. Barton, Esq. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As an elementary school student, Ms. Barton wanted to pursue a career in law. However, upon entering college, she majored in Mass Communications (minored in Psychology) and gained valuable expertise in the journalism field before earning a master's degree in Political Science from Jackson State University. Once she graduated with her master's degree, she decided to return to school once again, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Driven to help families through complex legal processes and represent individuals for injuries sustained, she began her legal career as a litigation attorney at Pittman & Associates, PLLC in Clarksdale, Mississippi. In 2015, she started her own law firm, the Law Office of Ja'Nekia W. Barton.

For the last nine years, Ms. Barton has dealt with a plethora of personal injury cases, family law matters and juvenile court matters as a certified youth court public defender, guardian ad litem and parent representative defender. Though her career is still on the rise, in 2015 she briefed and orally argued a case before the Mississippi Supreme Court. The state had taken control of her client's assets, in violation of his fourth amendment rights, worth nearly $300,000. Due to her considerable expertise and passion, she won the case and the state was required to return her client's money and ordered by the lower court to pay interest on the funds. Recently, she served as an attorney for an election contest matter and was successful at the trial level. The Court ruled for the Defendant and validated the results of the election. In conjunction with her work in private practice, she is in her second year as city attorney for Mound Bayou, Mississippi.

To remain aware of ongoing changes in the field, Ms. Barton aligns herself with the board of directors of the Magnolia Bar Association and the Mississippi Women Lawyers' Association. She also serves on the Child Advocacy Committee for the Mississippi Bar Association. She also served as the first African American woman president of Coahoma County Bar Association. She considers her success as a direct reflection of her upbringing and her values and morals as a direct correlation of lessons taught by her parents and other individuals that may have touched her life. In her spare time, she devotes herself to others through the provision of pro bono services, with organizations like the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of her commitment to the youth in the legal system, and she wholeheartedly believes that "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" coined by Frederick Douglass. Additionally, she has received several awards and recognitions for serving as a speaker, participating in high school career day events and other events throughout the community. In the near future, Ms. Barton plans to direct her attention to serving the public and aims to become a judge.

Ms. Barton resides with her son, Jayden, and niece, Jaliyah. They attend United Baptist Church in Cleveland, Mississippi. Her favorite quote is "We must understand before we judge."
