Stephen Mark Schlacks Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

An accomplished listee, Mr. Schlacks celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Schlacks, of the Schlacks Law Firm, PLLC, founded his law firm in 1996 as a specialist in personal injury and business matters. A respected attorney of 35 years, he has defended clients in state and federal courts and has notably represented such large corporations as MetLife, Terra Firma Development Corp. and Caltim, Ltd. Beginning his career as the top rated law clerk with Clark and Clark, Attorneys at Law, in Waco, Texas, Mr. Schlacks was subsequently hired after graduation by Wetzel and Associates in The Woodlands, Texas. As he continually progressed through the field, he advanced to the role of a partner at the firm of Hope, Causey and Schlacks PC before ultimately entering private practice. Prior to obtaining his law degree, Mr. Schlacks worked for Johnson and Johnson Products Inc. from 1978 to 1984 as a supervisor and special projects manager.

During the course of his impressive career, Mr. Schlacks taught and prepared law curriculum as an adjunct law professor at Lone Star College in Texas. He also became a frequent speaker in his field, lecturing at law seminars sponsored by HMS Continuing Legal Education, and contributing articles to professional law journals. Likewise, Mr. Schlacks co-authored "Texas Tort Reform Legislation and Its Effects" in 1987 in the Houston Lawyer, which is a publication of the Houston Bar Association, and was a journalist for the Austin College Campus Newspaper between 1977 and 1978.

Prolifically involved in community efforts, Mr. Schlacks served on the advisory committee of the Harper's Preserve Homeowners Association and was the vice president of the board of the Lake Woodlands Property Owners Association. He was also a charter member of the Market Street Kiwanis Club and the president of the Woodlands Kiwanis Charity. As a parishioner of Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, Mr. Schlacks was a ruling elder, clerk of session, Stephen minister, head usher and president of the board of trustees. He also volunteered his time by participating in missionary work. Traveling to Haiti, he helped rebuild a church on the island after the devastating earthquake of January 2010 destroyed it. Among other community involvements to his credit, Mr. Schlacks led initiatives with the Woodlands High School swim team as the president of the board of directors.

Mr. Schlacks received a Bachelor of Arts in both Business Administration and History at Austin College in 1978. That same year he married his wife, Sarah (they now have three children and seven grandchildren). Continuing his education, he completed a Master of Business Administration in Industrial Management, with highest honors, at the University of Dallas in 1982 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Baylor University in 1986. Mr. Schlacks has been admitted to practice law by the Texas State Bar, the U.S. District Court for the Southern, Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has also been board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for over 25 years.

An elected life fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, Mr. Schlacks is also a fellow of the College of the State Bar of Texas. Throughout the length of his tenure in practice, he has served as a member of the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas, Defense Research Institute, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, the Houston Lawyer Referral Service and other prominent professional organizations including the State Bar of Texas Referral Service. Moreover, Mr. Schlacks maintains his membership with the honorable societies of Sigma Iota Epsilon and Pi Gamma Mu.

Well regarded in the field, Mr. Schlacks was a 1984 Leon Jaworski scholar and a 1986 Harcourt Brace Jovanovich scholar. Furthermore, he received a Baylor Law Wives Award in 1986. An AV-Rated Preeminent Attorney through Martindale-Hubbell between 1994 and 2020, Mr. Schlacks is also a celebrated Marquis listee, having been cited in approximately 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
