Phillips, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Phillips celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

On campus, he was highly regarded as a mentor and colleague. Dr. Phillips has also long served as a contributing editor for Oakstone Publications' Practical Reviews in Gastroenterology. Supporting his professional career, he is an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians and was also a member of the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.

Dr. Phillips was born in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from high school, he studied locally at Brooklyn College, City University of New York, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 1962. Aspiring to be a dentist after winning a New York Regents Scholarship in Medicine and Dentistry he enrolled at the New York University School of Dentistry where, after successfully completing his first year he decided to change his career path to Medicine. He then continued his studies abroad attending the School of Medicine of the Catholic University of Louvain, in Louvain Belgium.
