Following more than three decades of success in the paint and retail industry, Mr. Wong resolved to change paths. Completing coursework to become a nursing assistant, he was quickly recruited by Home Health in 2002. During the following year, he was hired by Kaiser Permanente as a certified nursing assistant and licensed vocational nurse. Based in Oakland, California, Kaiser Permanente is an American integrated managed care group and one of the largest nonprofit healthcare plans in the country.
In his role at the hospital, Mr. Wong works frequently in the operating room department, where he is primarily responsible for transporting patients to and from different areas of the facility. He also assists the nurses and doctors within the department, delivers lab samples and retrieves blood for patients that are bound for surgery. Much of his success in the field, Mr. Wong noted, is due to his ability to ease the concerns of patients, helping them to relax during often stressful times.
Becoming an author in 2019, Mr. Wong published a book, "The Apricot Outlook of Katherine Koon Hung Wong." The story expounds upon the experiences of his mother, Katherine "Katy" C. Wong. The film version of the biography is scheduled to be released in the Philippines and China, with future aspirations of optioning it for Hollywood.
Mr. Wong published a children's book "The App I Cot Journey to Plumville-Empowering Kids to Overcome Adversity" on January 17, 2021. It's an app's journey that keeps maintaining itself for better health, wants to be an engineer, but the better schools were in the town of Plumville. It enrolled in Plumville High School knowing that it may encounter some adversity or bullying. Striving to achieve a better life, it faces the challenges ahead. His third book "The Power of Passion", a romance book, will hit the market in March 2021. It is a love story of a clash of two generations; a subliminal chord of racism, all playing out in the individualism of the two lovers and the man's mother.
Mr. Wong was born in Honolulu. He later studied at California State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in business management in 1985. Returning to school, he earned an Associate of Art in marketing at Chabot College in Hayward, California, in 1991. Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. Wong has received certification as a nursing assistant and surgical processing, and is a licensed vocational nurse.
As a commitment to his local community and beyond, Mr. Wong has volunteered his time by teaching a children's literacy class. He also participated on a surgical mission to Guatemala and Ecuador and been involved in fundraising events via Relay for Life.
Recognized for his contributions by Kaiser Permanente, the company honored him with an Excellence Award for his superior work ethic.
