Although he began his studies in political science in the early 1970's, Mr. Petyak shifted his attention to accounting after his first accounting class. With a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1973, he began a career which took him from public accounting to internal auditing to controllership positions in private and public real estate firms, to banking, and eventually education. During this time period, Mr. Petyak obtained his MBA from his alma mater, Saint Francis University, in 2004.
His interest in education began when a former professor requested that he take over one of his evening accounting courses. This resulted in a position as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Accounting at Saint Francis University and led to a full time position as Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. He has taught classes in Financial, Intermediate, Managerial and Cost Accounting, Personal Financial Planning and Introduction to Business.
Mr. Petyak is a Certified Publica Accountant in the State of Pennsylvania, a Certified Global Management Accountant and a member of the Pennsylvania and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. His community activities include classroom volunteer and board member of Junior Achievement, finance council at Holy Family Church, Treasurer of Portage Area Development Association, and member of the Pennsylvania Institute of CPA's volunteer Speakers Bureau. Looking into the future, he intends to remain involved in his community and his profession and spend more time with his grandchildren.
