Julie Elrod Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Martial Arts Instruction

Ms. Elrod established the American Academy of Martial Arts in 1995.

COLUMBIA, MD, March 18, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julie Elrod has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Bullied during her youth, Ms. Elrod grew up knowing that she never wanted to be in that position again, and, as a young adult, she began to pursue studies in numerous martial arts, including Jiu-Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Ninjutsu, and mixed martial arts. Driven to help children in the same position that she had found herself, she opened the American Academy of Martial Arts, where she serves as the owner and Master Instructor. With more than 1,200 active students, the American Academy of Martial Arts is one of the biggest martial arts schools in the country. Elrod specializes in teaching self defense and confidence to students of all ages. She and her two adult children, Wyatt and Kami, who have been doing martial arts their whole lives, also teach their students the philosophy that goes hand-in-hand with a good martial arts program —respect, self discipline, honesty, perseverance , how to walk away from a fight. They have taught well over 70,000 students in Howard County, Maryland and their school repeatedly wins the award for the best martial arts school in the county year after year.

In a career filled with highlights, she is honored to have become an expert in various martial arts, earning a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a 2nd degree black belt in Hapkido, a 9th degree black belt in Budo Taijutsu under Grandmaster Hatsumi, and a 10th degree black belt in Taikido Jitsu.

Ms. Elrod graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland where she studied Sociology and Criminal Justice. She is certified as a Self Defense Expert in the state of Maryland and is a travel marshal for American Airlines. Ms. Elrod was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2008. She has written several best selling books and appeared on the national television show "To Tell the Truth" as the Ninja Mom. Ms. Elrod was the Martial Arts Hall of Fame Instructor of the Year in 2002.

Ms. Elrod spends every second of her spare time doing dog rescue. She has a dog sanctuary at her home where she cares for 20 plus special needs dogs. Elrod takes the dogs that no one else wants— blind dogs, deaf dogs, blind and deaf dogs, three legged and paralyzed dogs.
