Antonio J. Matta Lauded for Excellence in Architecture

Mr. Matta channels 40 years of excellence in the field to his role with Goodwin University



    EAST HARTFORD, CT, March 22, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Antonio J. Matta has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on more than four decades of expertise in architecture and 20 years of experience with the government, Mr. Matta excels today with Goodwin University. As an architect for the University, he develops systems to document project status and cash flow, oversees capital improvements for all university buildings, directs special projects and staff and supervises energy procurement, retro-commissioning and energy improvements. Presently, Mr. Matta is overseeing the multi-phase South Meadows Trails projects.

Prior to obtaining his role with Goodwin University in 2017, Mr. Matta gained valuable expertise in architecture, engineering, and project management. As City Architect and acting City Engineer for the City of Hartford, he worked extensively in building community resources, such as recreation centers, libraries, and parks. As a project manager and job captain for Smith Edwards Architects, he focused on historic renovations, most notably the 200-year-old Connecticut Old State House. Mr. Matta initially served as a drafter with the Lawrence Associates, where he began his career in 1980. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Matta has worked on a plethora of multimillion-dollar projects, including the Anderson Recreation Center in 2009, Weaver High School in 2017 and a solar power installation project in 2020.

Before embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Matta earned a Bachelor of Science in architecture and a Master of Architecture from Catholic University in 1978 and 1980, respectively. Outside of his work, he remains dedicated to his community as a member of the East Hartford Public Buildings Commission, the Hartford Public Library Board, the Bushnell Park Foundation and the East Hartford Redevelopment Agency. Additionally, Mr. Matta serves as a pastoral council member and youth group director with the North American Martyrs Parish of East Hartford.

In light of his outstanding body of work, Mr. Matta has received eight awards through the City of Hartford. Among them, he was bestowed with the Hartford Preservation Alliance Award for Bushnell Park Carousel, Old North Cemetery and the Keney Memorial Clock Tower, the Build CT Merit Award for the Hartford Public Safety Complex, the Connecticut Design Award for the Old State House Project and the Ninth Square Project through the AIA. Looking toward the future, Mr. Matta intends to continue working for Goodwin University.
