Dr. Deepak Kamnasaran is a well-accomplished Canadian Medical Geneticist, Educator, Oncologist, Technology Innovator and Business Executive. His life has been inspired by his parents: Dr. Kam Kamnasaran and Mrs. Madodareedevi Kamnasaran, both of whom are award-winning Educators who have helped and mentored thousands of people throughout their careers. Dr. Kamnasaran received his Post-Secondary Academic training with a Bachelor's Degree in Genetics, with Distinction, at the University of Alberta in 1997, a Doctorate in Medical Genetics, with Distinction, at the University of Alberta in 2003, a Certificate in Bioinformatics at the University of British Columbia in 2000 and a Certificate in Mechanisms of Neural Differentiation and Brain Tumors at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in 2006.

Dr. Kamnasaran also completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuro-oncology at the University of Toronto, the Hospital for Sick Children and University Health Network from 2003 to 2007. He was subsequently recruited to the academic faculty in the Department of Pediatrics at Laval University from 2008 to 2015. Moreover, Dr. Kamnasaran worked as a Medical Scientist at the CHUQ in Québec City, Canada as well as a Post-Graduate student supervisor in the Department of Pediatrics at Laval University during this time.

At the Laval University and the CHUQ, Dr. Kamnasaran was the Director of his high complexity laboratory, which undertook leading-edge research in the disciplines of Stem Cell Biology, Oncology, Neuroscience, Pharmaceutical science and Medical genetics. He has trained and instructed numerous personnel, including clinicians from the medical residency programs, clinical and basic research fellows, doctorate graduate students and undergraduate university students. Dr. Kamnasaran has further served as a mentor to hundreds of students from various communities in Canada to educate them on the intricacies and applications of science and medicine.

Findings from Dr. Kamnasaran's research career have been integral to several seminal scientific biomedical discoveries, including the discovery of a new gene that causes schizophrenia, the development of a novel stem cell-based model for cancer, the discovery of a new gene that causes cancer and the discovery of new drugs for the treatment of cancer, to name a few. He has also garnered immense leadership experience in organizing and directing medical and scientific teams worldwide. Dr. Kamnasaran has further made several hundred contributions to articles and reviews in reputable academic journals, book chapters, global lectureships and scientific meetings, editorial boards, mentorships, grant reviews and scientific competitions, among others.

Dr. Kamnasaran has been presented with more than 50 prestigious and scholastic awards, distinctions, prizes and scholarships from Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The recipient of the Marquis Who's Who in the World Award from 2013 to 2016, he additionally accepted the FRSQ Investigator Award in 2010, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation Leaders Opportunity Fund Award in 2009, the CHIR and CCSRI New Investigator Travel Award from 2009 to 2010 and Young Investigator Awards from the American Association of Indian Scientists in Cancer Research, the Canadian Brain Tumor Foundation, the Canadian Society of Neuro-oncology, the American Society of Neuro-oncology and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Other examples of miscellaneous awards to Dr. Kamnasaran's credit are from the American Association of Cancer Research, the European Cancer Meeting, the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, the Burroughs Wellcome Trust Fund, as well as Doctoral Awards from the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research and Canadian Institute of Health Research and Postdoctoral Fellowships from the Natural Science and Engineering Research Counsel, the Canadian Institute of Health Research and the American Brain Tumor Association.

Dr. Kamnasaran has been a member of numerous consortiums and societies, such as the Canadian Brain Tumor Consortium, the American Society of Human Genetics, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigators, the American Society of Neuro-oncology, the Canadian Society of Neuro-oncology, the Genetics Society of Canada and the Canadian Federation of Biological Sciences, to mention a few.
