Obtaining a wealth of expertise in software engineering and information technology, Mr. Smith has found success throughout a fulfilling career that has spanned over 15 years. Presently serving as a lead software engineer for the Division of Information Systems at the Arkansas Department of Transformation and Shared Services, he has distinguished himself through leading his team in a variety of important projects. Having initially joined the aforementioned department in 2008 as a computer support specialist, Mr. Smith previously worked in education as a middle school teacher with the Texarkana Arkansas School District from 2006 to 2008, during which time he also excelled as a computer information systems specialist.
In a career filled with highlights, Mr. Smith is incredibly proud to have been an effective advocate for his customers, whose happiness and satisfaction represents the lifeblood of his vocation. He was notably featured in Stater Alumni Magazine, a publication of Southern Arkansas University, as a testament to his work in fully migrating Arkansas state employees to remote access during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Smith credits his success to the longstanding support that he has received from his friends and family in addition to the tireless efforts of his team of colleague.
Mr. Smith initially became involved in his profession due to his affinity for computers. Having volunteered for various companies in performing information technology tasks as a middle school student, he quickly resolved to pursue his career path accordingly. He enrolled at Southern Arkansas University soon thereafter, from which he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in computer information systems in 2001.
Currently, Mr. Smith is studying for a master's degree in information technology management. Furthermore, he certified in digital technology innovation, enterprise data management and digital ecosystem infrastructure through edX, an open online course program provided by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Looking toward the future, he aspires to continue flourishing in his current role on behalf of the state of Arkansas. Outside of his vocational circles, Mr. Smith is additionally active as a summer volunteer for the Minority Barber & Beauty Shop Health Initiative, and enjoys gaming during his spare time.
