Susan Liang Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Special Education

Ms. Liang has excelled as a special education teacher for more than 40 years



    HOLLAND, MI, April 02, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan Liang has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Inspired by her parents Donald and Eunice Northuis, both of whom were teachers. Ms. Liang decided to pursue a similar path. In the late 1970s. she began her career in the field as a special education teacher. She has worked in four states and with several school districts over the years, including currently working for the Holland Public Schools. For more than 40 years. Ms. Liang has taught students with a varying range of disabilities from learning disabilities to students with severe and multiple disabilities, between the ages of two and 26.

Additionally. Ms. Liang serves in several capacities with the state of Michigan, including as a member of the test drafting committee for the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification Exam for Cognitive Impairment. She has served as a member of the team creating and writing the MI-Access Science Assessment alternate content expectations developed to align with the new Michigan K-12 Science Standards in 2018-19. She has also served in various capacities as an item writer and item evaluator for the MI-Access state academic assessments for students with significant disabilities since 2014. Having obtained certifications in teaching the cognitively and emotionally impaired, as well as those with learning disabilities, she earned a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in special education from Western Illinois University in 1998. Ten years later. Ms. Liang graduated with a Master of Science in Education from Grand Valley State University, focusing on Special Education Administration.

Outside of her primary responsibilities. Ms. Liang also has contributed to those in need as a district representative and a local coach with the Special Olympics organization and as a Christian Educator for students with special needs in two local churches. In recognition of her professional achievements, she accepted the Governor's Award from the State of Illinois in 2001. Looking forward. Ms. Liang aims to continue working as a substitute special education teacher in her local school district.
