After studying theology and French to prepare to teach at the collegiate level, Mr. Costigan switched career paths and began working as multi-peril underwriter for Insurance Company North America. During the late-1970s and early-1980s, he served in several executive roles for such companies as Casualty Product Management and MarketDyne International before channeling his expertise into roles of increasing responsibility with INA Special Risk Facilities and CIGNA Corporation when he was elected Vice President for many INA/CIGNA subsidiary companies.
An accomplished insurance executive with more than four decades of senior and middle management expertise in the property and casualty insurance industries, Mr. Costigan gained valuable expertise in the field with American International Group Risk Management and AON Corporation between 1990 and 2001. Supported by his considerable knowledge, he excels today as the vice chairperson and chief underwriting officer for Rembrandt Spc Ltd. A Cayman Islands insurance company and as the president and chief executive officer of Spectrum Risk Services LLC. In his work with Spectrum, Mr. Costigan provides expert witness consultations for insurance disputes, has served as a member of arbitration panels, performed due diligence audits for insurance acquisitions and performed several regulatory audits both domestic and international.
An expert in his field, Mr. Costigan holds a Bachelor of Arts in modern language and philosophy magna cum laude from Niagara University and completed coursework at the Catholic University of America and Villanova University. Additionally, he has pursued such training in advanced property underwriting, product management, advanced negotiation, influence management and more. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Costigan aligned himself with the American Management Association, the American Society of Association Executives, the Vermont Captive Insurers Association, Cayman Island Managers Association and the State Risk and Insurance Managers Association.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Costigan has contributed to his community through Companion and Animals for Reform and Equity, several local food banks and the Knights of Columbus. Due to his professional excellence, he has contributed to a variety of publications in Best's Review, Business Insurance, National Underwriter, Rough Notes and Association Magazine and has also spoken at the Hawaii Captive Conference, the Eighth International Reinsurance and Captive Conference and through the Financial Services Association of Canada. In light of his outstanding body of work, he was listed in Who's Who Worldwide and received an Award for Promoting Cross-Selling Between Divisions at CIGNA Corporation. Though his career has been suffused with highlights, he is especially proud to have been one of the founders of the Cayman Islands Company, and to have secured an insurance program through a state government account while working for AIG. In the coming years, Mr. Costigan intends to experience the continued success of his career.
