Gilbert Hin Lung Tang, MD, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

    NEW YORK, NY, April 12, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gilbert Hin Lung Tang, MD, MSc, MBA, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As a child, Dr. Tang and his family immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong. His parents had a high school education and instilled in him the value of hard work from a young age. In college, he became interested in science, and as he conducted more research in the field, he realized that he could help individuals directly by studying medicine. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in biochemical sciences, from the prestigious Harvard University in 1998, he entered medical school at the University of Toronto, where he became interested in cardiac surgery. He received a Doctor of Medicine with honors in 2002 and a Master of Science in cardiovascular science in 2007. Subsequently, he obtained a Master of Business Administration in health care from Harvard Business School in 2008. Dr. Tang also obtained his board certification in cardiac surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Tang began his career as an attending surgeon and clinical instructor in cardiothoracic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2011 before serving from 2012 to 2014 as an assistant professor of cardiothoracic surgery at New York Medical College. He also served as an attending surgeon in cardiothoracic surgery and the director of the Valve Disease Center at Westchester Medical Center between 2012 and 2016. Joining the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2017, Dr. Tang has excelled as the surgical director of the structural program and an associate professor of cardiovascular surgery, while also lending his expertise to the entire Mount Sinai Health System as an attending surgeon.

In his current positions, Dr. Tang treats patients with abnormal heart conditions pertaining to the heart valve. He also develops treatments through surgery or minimally invasive procedures. As a respected member of his field, Dr. Tang is one of only dozen surgeons in the world who regularly performs transcatheter valve procedures. He was also selected as a principal investigator in clinical trials using the latest technologies to repair or replace diseased heart valves. Over the years, he has been most proud of his ability to remain in the forefront of his field. He has been a part of critical innovation, including the development of new techniques and collaboration with other leaders. He has also published much of his work in top academic journals. In addition, Dr. Tang has also enjoyed teaching and mentoring younger individuals in the field to become the next innovators and game-changers.

Throughout his career, Dr. Tang has spoken at numerous world conferences and lectures. He also received a patent for a technology to replace the aorta and heart valve. In his community, he has been active with All Souls School and the New York Society for Thoracic Surgery. Since 2020, he has led as a co-principal investigator of the EXPLANT-TAVR and CUTTING-EDGE International Registries in cardiology and cardiac surgery. Likewise, since 2019, he has maintained membership as an investigator or co-investigator of various studies and trials in transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve repair and replacement.

Dr. Tang maintains professional affiliation with the American Heart Association, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. He attributes his professional success to the strong work ethic he received from his parents. Looking toward the future, Dr. Tang hopes to continue leading the field in heart disease treatment and preventive care. He enjoys spending family time with his wife and 2 children.
