William O'Neill Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of News Media

Mr. O'Neill retired in 2002 after decades of expertise with such institutions as the New York Post, News America, Murdoch's News Limited and Twentieth Century Fox



    SAN ANTONIO, TX, April 26, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William O'Neill has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Born to Irish parents in Sydney, Australia, Mr. O'Neill graduated from high school and pursued an apprenticeship as a compositor and production printer. Before leaving Australia he served as a vice president on the board of the New South Wales branch of the Printing Industries Employees' Union. On arriving in the United States he joined the International Typographical Union in San Francisco. During that time he visited the Chicago Sun-Times and the Boston Herald-Traveler, where years later he would have labor relations responsibilities as News America's vice president.

Over the years, Mr. O'Neill established himself in his field with executive positions for the New York Post, News International UK, for which he served as the chief executive officer, on two separate occasions, in charge of the largest newspaper publishing operation in the English-speaking world. He was also appointed to the Board of News Corporation, the Murdoch companies' parent, serving three years. He maintained human resources responsibilities for Twentieth Century Fox, Fox News, Fox TV Stations, The South China Morning Post and more than half of the newspapers in Australia. Throughout his career, Mr. O'Neill has achieved much, including representing the United States as the employer delegate at a tripartite meeting of the International Labor Organization and testifying before a U.S. Congressional Committee during the early 1990s as an expert witness on the Striker Replacement Bill.

In 2002, Mr. O'Neill retired exactly 50 years from the day he began his career with the Daily Mirror in Sydney.

For his professional achievements, Mr. O'Neill was presented with an Appreciation Award from the New York City Police Department. Moreover, he was recognized with Who's Who in the UK and Who's Who in Australia. In a career filled with highlights, he is incredibly proud of the work he conducted for Rupert Murdoch. Looking toward the future, Mr. O'Neill intends to enjoy his well-deserved retirement in San Antonio, Texas.
