Eric P. Muth Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Muth with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Muth celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Now retired, Mr. Muth served as a licensed master optician and the successful owner of Park Lane Opticians in Milford, Connecticut, from 1967 to 2002. A respected member of the community and trusted leader in his field for 35 years, he found great satisfaction in assisting clients with their vision care. Prior to working in his current field, Mr. Muth earned distinction in public service as a firefighter and police officer.

Contributory to his area of expertise, Mr. Muth served on the editorial board of Dispensing Opticians Buttersworths-Heinmann in 1978 when he authored Management for Opticians, and was co-author of the publication's second edition in 1998. He was also an editor for Optical Management from 1979 until 1980, OpticScan Canada between 1981 and 1982, Indian Optician during 1982 and Prism Magazine in Canada in 1988 and 1992. Likewise, he served as a technical editor for Optical Index between 1980 and 1982. Additionally, Mr. Muth has authored over 250 scholarly articles for professional journals in six languages and has reviewed several books.

Beyond his work as an entrepreneur, Mr. Muth was instrumental on such boards and committees as the advisory committee for Seattle Central College and the advisory board of the international Scientific Institute in Puerto Rico. He was also an advisory board member and vice chairperson of Middlesex Community College. Moreover, Mr. Muth lent his expertise as a consultant on behalf of several organizations as well, including the Gesell Institute of Human Development, the National Museum of History at the Smithsonian Institute and the American Academy of Opthalmology Museum. He was also a personnel consultant for the International Society for Philosophical Inquiry.

Involved in a plethora of philanthropic, charitable and civic causes, Mr. Muth's many efforts have included volunteering as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, as a board director of the Connecticut chapter of the American Red Cross, the founder and chairperson of the Korea-Vietnam memorial committee in Milford, a trustee of the Connecticut Visual Health Center and a trooper of the Connecticut State Militia. Among other honorable roles, he most notably served his country in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Reserves, and the Connecticut National Guard. As a disabled veteran, Mr. Muth was gratified to participate in the creation of a monument to the Second World War. He also served as a two-time volunteer conducting medical research at the Army Chemical Warfare Center in Edgewood, Maryland. This service was considered vital to National Defense. Mr. Muth received Letters of Commendation for service above and beyond the call of duty.

For his service, Mr. Muth was decorated with an Army Commendation Medal, a Medal of Merit and numerous other accolades. For his volunteer services, he received a Medal of Merit from the El Salvador Red Cross in 1999, a Volunteer Award from the Veterans Administration in 2003 and, among others, a Living Treasure Award from the Town of Milford in 2013. With respect to his career, Mr. Muth was named as the Optician of the Year by the Connecticut Opticians Association, the Connecticut Guild of Rx Opticians of Connecticut and the Guild of Prescription Opticians of America.

Mr. Muth is an elected fellow of the Connecticut Opticians Association, where he served on various committees, is a past president, and the recipient of several awards, including an Advancing Opticianry Award. He is also a member of multiple different industry-related organizations, through which he has been involved in various roles, including the American Board of Opticianry, the Contact Lens Society of America, the International Foundation in Ophthalmic Optics, the Contact Lens Society of Connecticut and the National Contact Lens Examiners. Furthermore, Mr. Muth is a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 196 and is a Disabled American Veteran.

Born in Munich, Mr. Muth came to the U.S. with his family at the age of eight. He received a Bachelor of Science at Charter Oak State College in Connecticut in 1978. He also achieved an honorary degree in opticianry, with honors, at Anoka-Hennipen Technical College in Minnesota in 1995. Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. Muth was a licensed master optician between 1967 and 2002 and has since become licensed by Skip Barber Racing School in 2009. Finally, he is a Knight of Malta and Knight Commander of the Order of the Holy Sepulcher.
