Mr. Brandis is a gifted civil engineer who has been working for the local government for more than 55 years. Presently retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in Harrisburg, where he served as the chief of project design. Following in the department's mission to protect natural resources from pollution, as well as to provide health and safety advisement for all Pennsylvania residents, Mr. Brandis has excelled in his role since 1966.
After graduating from college in 1996, Mr. Brandis was interviewed by the Pennsylvania Department of Forest and Water in Harrisburg. The Department was in search of civil engineers at that time to work in their flood protection program. Accepting the position, Mr. Brandis spent several years in that capacity, after which he was acquired by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources in Harrisburg, where he enjoyed a nearly two decade long tenure as a project coordinator.
Among his many triumphs in the field, Mr. Brandis collaborated on a project that involved building a dam that included a fish ladder, which would preserve the lives of animals by enabling them to pass through the dam. It was a very rewarding experience to see his efforts make such a positive impact on the environment. To remain aware of developments in the field, Mr. Brandis has served as a respected member of the American Society of Civil Engineers for numerous years.
Committed to several religious and nonprofit organizations over the past three decades, Mr. Brandis was active with the United Church of Christ Homes in Harrisburg on the board of directors from 1992 to 2002 and was the treasurer between 1998 and 2002. He has served on the consistory of the Faith United Church of Christ in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, since 1997 and is also involved with the Wentz United Church of Christ's youth group, which meets annually and is led by Pastor Uble Frost. Additionally, Mr. Brandis has served on the board of directors of the Medard's House, a youth center in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, since 2018, where he once found success as the treasurer from 2018 to 2020.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Brandis received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering at Drexel University in 1966. He is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania. In 1998, Mr. Brandis was bestowed with a Hammer Award, a governmental award that is presented to federal employees who exhibit excellence in their profession.
