Since coming of age, Ms. Empson aspired to follow the example of her parents and pursue a career in the wine industry. Her family moved to Milan, Italy, when she was four years old, after which she received an education in the Italian school system and went to boarding school in Rhode Island for two years to combine her European upbringing with her American origins.
Returning to Italy to complete her studies after graduating from high school, Ms. Empson traveled to Australia and New Zealand with her parents to learn about the unique wine region and immerse herself in what would be her lifelong dream of representing iconic and diverse wines from all over the globe.
Ms. Empson, at the age of 21, began working in the Milan office (Empson&co) observing and learning as much as she could, valuing the successful company her parents had established through their perseverance, dedication and love for Italian wine. Her aim is to learn from the past but to look to the future without changing the core values and the identity of the company. Presently, she serves as the chief executive officer of Empson USA Corporation, the chief executive officer of Empson Canada and a partial owner of Empson Italy. Throughout the course of her professional journey, Ms. Empson has developed her expertise in nurturing relationships and investing in quality. On a daily basis, she represents all of her family's wineries and oversees the export of Italian wine to over 34 countries. Her personal goal in business is to ensure that the Empson companies evolve with the market by meeting expectations and bringing back the value in tradition.
For her efforts over the years, Ms. Empson was featured among 40 Under 40 by Wine Enthusiast. Throughout her career, she has attributed her standout success to her mentors, who have taught her much about the industry. In addition, Ms. Empson has drawn a wealth of lessons from the challenges of working in a family-owned business.
Civically, Ms. Empson has been involved with the Italian Cancer Society, as well as other charitable Italian organizations. She maintains her affiliation with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. In the coming years, Ms. Empson plans to become more involved in the community. She would like to support charities that address environmental concerns as well as humane and animal causes. She would also like to explore the digital side of business for her current company.
