Dr. Ta is renowned as a lawyer and a legal researcher with more than 50 years of expertise in his discipline. He initially earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saigon in 1960 before enrolling at the University of Virginia as a Fulbright scholar, where he obtained a Master of Arts in 1964 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1965. In 1985, he graduated with a Master of Laws by Harvard University. Dr. Ta was subsequently admitted to practice law by the Massachusetts Bar Association in 1986.
From 1965 to 1975, Dr. Ta began his career as a professor at the National School of Administration and the University of Saigon Law School. He further flourished as a partner of the firm Tang thi Thanh Trai & Ta Van Tai from 1968 to 1975. Following these appointments, he found much success as a research associate for Harvard Law School, where he would remain until 2010. From 1990 to 1994, Dr. Ta was additionally active as a research scholar at the New York University Law School, and he served as an adjunct lecturer at Harvard Law School during the 1998 academic year.
Dr. Ta has maintained a private legal practice based in Brookline, Massachusetts, since 1986. Likewise, he has consulted for such notable clients as CitiBank, Chase Manhattan Bank and the Bank of America. He is the author of several books about Vietnamese law, and has contributed extensively to professional journals and law reviews. Moreover, Dr. Ta has been presented with grants from the Aspen Institute, the Ford Foundation and the Asia Foundation in light of his exceptional efforts in his fields.
