A seasoned marketing expert with nearly four decades of practiced brand and product management expertise to his credit, Mr. Norris is currently the executive director of the Iowa Rock 'N Roll Music Association, through which he leads the charge to celebrate the legacy and inspire the future of the rock genre in Iowa. He is also one of the co-founders, and marketing lead of Fluidology LLC, which provides comprehensive predictive analysis of equipment operating fluids. Additionally, Mr. Norris works as the president and owner of GCN Marketing and Consulting.
Prior to obtaining his current positions, Mr. Norris grew to become one of the fishing industry experts in fishing line by serving for nearly two decades in several different positions for Pure Fishing – the world's largest fishing tackle company. From 2007 until 2017, he led a talented team as a senior global brand and product manager of Pure Fishing's Berkley Fishing Lines. During that time, Mr. Norris maintained a number one market share position for Berkley Fishing Lines and drove product development in Europe and Asia. After Pure Fishing, he worked in the fly fishing industry as the director of national sales and marketing for Cortland Line Company, the leading US manufacturer of fly lines.
During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Norris served as Pure Fishing's fishing line category manager for all Pure Fishing line brands, and prior to that as a brand manager for the Berkley and Fenwick brands, For the first 13 years of his career, he was with four different advertising agencies in Oklahoma and Alabama as a media director, buyer and planner. Before embarking upon his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in advertising, public relations and marketing from the University of Tulsa, from which he graduated with honors. Mr. Norris has been and continues to be involved in civic activities, as a former board member of the Pure Fishing Foundation, and a past member of the leadership board for Crosswinds Church in Spirit Lake Iowa. He is currently an active member of the local chapter of the Kiwanis Club, a short-term missionary with United Christians International in Haiti, volunteer for Global Friends, and is soon to be an adjunct professor for the Iowa Lakes Community College Continuing Education program. He has been happily married to his wife, Kathy, since 1985.
Though his career has been suffused with highlights, Mr. Norris is especially proud of leading product development with the talented team at Pure Fishing. Products that continue to be successful and widely distributed in fishing accounts and channels in the US and Canada, as well as globally. Throughout the course of his career, he has led teams that have won almost a dozen Best of Category Awards for product development. Within the next five years, Mr. Norris aims to remain dedicated to his work to expand the audience and grow membership on the statewide level at the Iowa Rock 'N Roll Music Association, and to help lead Fluidology during the start-up phase of the company and beyond.
