After losing his parents from tuberculosis in his teenage years, Mr. Burns became an "Inhalation Therapist" in 1966. His poetry expounds upon his deep and varied life experience, from the future of mankind, to visiting friends in Spanish Harlem during the Pre-Civil Rights Movement. Mr. Burns also released "Autobiography of an American Orphan" in 2009, an account of his life after being placed in a New York City multi-cultural orphanage at the age of four years.

Mr. Burns' educational pursuits included becoming a registered respiratory therapist through the NBRT in 1979 and a registered respiratory care practitioner through the Board of Medical Quality Assurance in 1986.
