Michael M. Whyte, PhD, Celebrates a Storied Career as a Global Educator

Dr. Whyte is the head of a nonprofit educational institution specializing in teaching students in Africa



    UPLAND, CA, May 20, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael M. Whyte, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With nearly four decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Whyte began his career as an educator with the U.S. Air Force Academy, serving as a senior associate professor and commander with the 34 Education Squadron from 1985 to 1995. After he departed the military, he excelled as a professor at Northern Arizona University between 1996 and 1999, whereupon he established himself as a provost and professor at Azusa Pacific University, beginning in 1999. Presently, he maintains his involvement with Azusa Pacific University as a professor and provost emeritus. Since 2015, Dr. Whyte has found additional success as the chief executive officer of the Global Academy for Transformational Leadership.

Dr. Whyte is proud to serve as the chief executive officer of the Global Academy for Transformation Leadership, having received the offer of employment from one of his former students, Dr. Bekele Shanko. In this capacity, he oversees the nonprofit organization's operations as it reaches out to students in various countries throughout Asia and Africa, including Togo, Kenya, Ethiopia and Zambia. Looking toward the future, Dr. Whyte hopes the Global Academy for Transformation Leadership's management team will be replaced with African members, so as to better represent the communities the foundation serves.

Dr. Whyte developed an interest in education due to his own struggles as a student. In high school and college, he had to retake the SAT exam eight times. Internalizing the lesson that his educational practices needed to change, he went on to study educational psychology, and made it his mission to inspire students suffering from similar issues. To this day, Dr. Whyte retains a deep passion for the field due to the difficulty many students throughout the world face in securing adequate mental healthcare.

Dr. Whyte received a Bachelor of Science in international affairs and American politics from the U.S. Air Force in 1978. Following this accomplishment, he obtained a Master of Science in educational counseling from the University of Southern California in 1981. Dr. Whyte completed his education in 1990, at which time he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in education, curriculum and instruction from the University of Southern California.

Notably, Dr. Whyte's career has taken him around the globe. He has worked as an international consultant in various countries, including Russia, Singapore, the Philippines, Chile and Iraq. From 2015 to 2019, he contributed as a board member at the HODOS Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. Dr. Whyte attributes his success in the field to his international experience. He has visited over 65 countries and has seen many of the educational practices that prevail across the world.

A dedicated civic citizen, Dr. Whyte advanced his career as a board member for the Center for Integrated Family and Health Services, the commissioner of the Senior College and University Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and a visiting professor at Howard University. Presently, he is the chairperson of the board of trustees of Life Pacific University. Dr. Whyte also maintains memberships with the Association of Chief Aacademic Officers and the Golden Key Honor Society.

Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Whyte has been recognized with many accolades. For his work in academics, he was presented with the Faculty of Color Diversity Award from Azusa Pacific University in 2010, the Global Leadership Award from Anyang University in 2007, the Cougar Award from Azusa Pacific University in 2001 and the Faculty of Influence Award from Northern Arizona University in 1998. For his contributions to the Air Force Academy, Dr. Whyte was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Arnold Air Society in 1999, a Letter of Commendation from the Secretary of the Air Force in 1995, and various Meritorious Service Medals, USAF Commendation Medals and a USAF Achievement Medal.

Dr. Whyte has been an author of numerous articles to various publications, as well as a presenter at many conferences and symposiums. Reflecting on his career, he is thrilled that many of his students have been successful in their own right. Above all, Dr. Whyte is content to have been a lifelong learner and utilized his passion for helping others, no matter the circumstance or location.
