Having retired in 2016, after a decade of work with GE Healthcare Coils in Aurora, Ohio, Dr. Su reflects on an exemplary career in both program management and electrical engineering on behalf of the organization. As a leader in technology and pioneer in the field, particularly in RF coils, he successfully brought various new concepts to production, including approximately a dozen new RF coil products that resulted in excess of $50 million in revenue. Preceding his career with GE, Dr. Su worked for USA Instruments Inc. in Aurora as a manager of open MRI coils. He was also aligned with Toshiba American MRI Inc. in San Francisco as a scientist and consultant and the National Research Council of Canada in Winnipeg, Canada, as a research associate.
A renowned physicist, Dr. Su was responsible for developing a solenoidal array concept for magnetic resonance imaging. He also acquired numerous patents, including for a solenoidal array, an uneven counter rotational coil and a double counter rotational coil, and invented a special solenoid coil array for use in MRIs in 2002, which is still utilized today. Dr. Su's research has been disseminated in various peer-reviewed journals, either as an author or co-author. He has also served as a reviewer on behalf of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine's annual meetings.
In retirement, Dr. Su continues to remain active in the industry. He recently earned distinction for teaching a physics course at Kent State University, and currently participates in several seminary courses. Secondary to his career, Dr. Su has enjoyed leading his community through his church. Outside of preaching, however, he has been actively engaged in various church activities.
Drawing from the influence of his father, who was a successful physics professor, Dr. Su received a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Toronto in 1991, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship on campus between 1991 and 1993. He previously completed a Master of Science at the University of New Brunswick in 1986. Supporting his illustrious career, Dr. Su has played an instrumental role as a member of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
In recent years, Dr. Su received a CEO Award, a Management Award, a Healthcare Heroes Award and a Predictable NPI Award from GE Healthcare Coils. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in various editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
