Anderson, MD, with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Dr. Anderson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now retired from private practice, Dr. Anderson is a board-certified oncologist and hematologist who accrued more than four decades of service to his patients and specialty. Inspired by his father, also a physician, he attended the University of Colorado, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1959 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1963. Dr. Anderson contributed during the next two years as a medical intern and resident at Johns Hopkins Medical Center before accepting a research and staff associate position at the National Institutes of Health, where he would remain until 1970.

Dr. Anderson returned to The Johns Hopkins Medical Center as an oncology fellow in 1970, and became an assistant professor of medicine and oncology at The Johns Hopkins Medical School in 1972. He did clinical research, primarily with bone marrow transplantation. In 1976, he returned to Colorado and was named as the director of the department of medical oncology at Penrose Cancer Hospital in Colorado Springs and a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He established his private practice the same year. In 1990, Dr. Anderson joined U.S. Oncology, where he would remain in practice until his retirement in 2006. He remains affiliated with the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, where he has practiced since 1995. He was President of the Association of Community Cancer Centers.

In addition to his work in education, Dr. Anderson was active in advocating for healthcare access and the advancement of oncology as a profession for much of his career. Likewise, he was the founding director of the Cancer Center of Colorado Springs, the founding president of Timberline Medical Associates and the former medical director of the Southern Colorado Cancer Program, and held leadership roles and was President of the Colorado Foundation for Medical Care, Preferred Physicians Inc. and was Principle Investigator of the Cancer Information Service of Colorado. Dr. Anderson was co-chairperson of the Colorado Medical Society Council of Ethics and Legal Affairs and the Penrose Hospital credentials committee, and provides his expertise to such outreach and research initiatives as the Southern Colorado AIDS Project. Extensively published, he has contributed numerous articles to professional journals, and has served on the editorial boards of the publications Health Care Management Review, Advances in Cancer Control and the Journal of Cancer Program Management. He was a founding board member of the Southern Colorado AIDS Project. He continues to have 20-30 patients across the USA who talk with him about their care management.

Since about 1995, Dr. Anderson is the co-chair of the Colorado Springs Medical-Legal Ethics Club, of which he has been a member for about 35 years. In accounting for his standout success, he credits his propensity for curiosity, a willingness to learn from peers and colleagues, and a desire to advance to the top of his field. In offering advice to others who seek to enter the field, Dr. Anderson advises others to seek out challenging environments where they will be able to learn through their actions.
