Sasha Spielvogel Lauded for Excellence in Dance Choreography

Ms. Spielvogel channels four decades of dance experience into her work with Labyrinth Dance Theater

BRIARWOOD, NY, May 26, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sasha Spielvogel has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

While pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in dance and choreography at New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Ms. Spielvogel danced to others' choreography. However, she quickly found herself stifled during the creative process. Driven to having her visions realized through her own approach to choreography, she trained at the Marsha Graham School and began a storied career in the field. Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Spielvogel participated in and choreographed such works as "NOOR", "Dark Angel," "The Promise of Rest," "Goya and the Sleep of Reason" and "Waltz for a Shattered World." "Come Back Once More So I Can Say Goodbye", an evening-length dance theater piece, had two runs at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater. Ms. Spielvogel's work has garnered standing ovations in New York; London; Paris; Edinburgh; Helsinki; Jodhpur, India; and St. Petersburg, Russia. Currently in development is Labyrinth's new project, "The Boy From Troy", based on the life of John Lewis and the struggle for civil rights in America.

Drawing on more than 40 years of professional experience, Ms. Spielvogel excels as the founder and artistic director of Labyrinth Dance Theater, where she works with artists who possess a seamless blend of dramatic intensity and technical excellence. Her work has been lauded by critics from Attitude Magazine and the New York Times as: "Totally mesmerizing!" "Striking!" "A powerful achievement performed superbly!" and "Raises the art form to where it should always be: Towering!"

Ms. Spielvogel is a member of Dancers Over 40, the American Dance Guild, ART/NY, Dance NYC and Dance USA. For her outstanding work in the field, she and Labyrinth Dance Theater have received grants from the Harkness Foundation for Dance, the Joyce-Mertz-Gilmore Foundation, the consulates of Spain and Finland, the 92nd Street Y and BAM.651 Partnership. She has earned a Legacy Award for Lifetime Achievement from Dancers Over 40 in 2016.
