Hernandez founded Walczak Hernandez P.C., where he served as managing attorney. He noticed a need in his community for people who couldn't afford hourly attorneys but also weren't eligible for legal aid services. Today, Mr. Hernandez is principal and managing attorney at NextLevel Law, P.C. by Daniel R. Hernandez, Esq. At his current firm, he focuses on clients on the lower end of the socio-economic ladder to help fill in the income gap that legal aid cannot fill. His firm charges flat rates so that they can serve a wide range of clients. Mr. Hernandez also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.
For his efforts in his career, Mr. Hernandez was recognized among National 40 LGBTQ Leaders Under 40 by Business Equality Magazine, among Latino 40 Under 40 by Negocios Now Magazine, and among 30 Under 30 by Windy City Times. He was also named Young Lawyer of the Year by the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois and a Rising Star in Super Lawyers Magazine.
Civically, Mr. Hernandez is active with Between Friends where he serves as President-Elect of the Board of Directors, and he volunteers as a pro bono attorney with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services. He maintains professional affiliation with the Hispanic National Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, the Chicago Bar Association and the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago.
