After working as a clerk for a local patent firm and a judicial law clerk for the 27th Judicial District Court, Dr. Brumfield excelled as an Associate Attorney at DeCuir, Clark, & Adams, LLP. Gaining experience in matters ranging from labor and employment law, education, and personal injury to estate planning and public finance, Dr. Brumfield had the opportunity to represent small and large companies in multiple sectors as well as governmental organizations. Additionally, Dr. Brumfield also focused on educational law on behalf of universities and educational entities involved in various lawsuits. Beginning her career in housing and urban development while working with housing authorities throughout the region, Dr. Brumfield continued to develop her passion for positively impacting families in impoverished communities.
As a now solo practitioner at her own firm, The Brumfield Firm, LLC, located in Opelousas, Louisiana, Dr. Brumfield continues to provide competent and efficient legal representation of clients in matters of civil and business defense litigation. Dr. Brumfield, through her Pro Bono work, also supports the needs of indigent clients who have been victims of predatory lending practices.
Prior to these positions, Dr. Brumfield served as an Assistant Professor at Xavier University of Louisiana of Louisiana. She has also provided contractual support to CPA Global as a Patent Examiner and the NASA Digital Learning Network (DLN) as an educational specialist. During her time as a contractor at NASA, she had the opportunity to enhance traditional and online learning with students from all over the country by exposing them to STEM as well as NASA's many career internships and pathways. By creating an environment where students, teachers and science experts could integrate through online learning platforms, Dr. Brumfield's enthusiasm for law and policy became a way for her to continue serving others, particularly children living in impoverished rural and urban communities.
Beyond her primary professional responsibilities, Dr. Brumfield has dedicated her time and resources to charitable causes. In the coming years, she hopes to become involved in international humanitarian work with the United Nations, where she can further help children in need. Dr. Brumfield is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Opelousas and the Lambda Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., which have both been instrumental in shaping her personal and professional life.
Dr. Brumfield has notably earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2003, a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry from Louisiana State University in 2009, a European Private Law Certification from the University of Salzburg in 2014, and a Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2017. She has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the U.S. District Courts of the Middle, Western, and Eastern Districts of Louisiana. Dr. Brumfield is also affiliated with the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit, the Federal Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
