Mr. Haka has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in library administration

EAST LANSING, MI, June 02, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Clifford Haka with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Haka celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Haka celebrates a fulfilling career in library administration. He began his career as a history research editor at the Illinois State Historical Library from 1971 to 1973, before accepting a position as a field service representative with the company between 1973 and 1976. Thereafter, he began working at the University of Kansas as an assistant curator from 1977 until 1978 and a circulation librarian from 1978 to 1982. Mr. Haka established himself as a staple in the Michigan State University community, finding success as an information librarian from 1982 to 1985, the head of information reference between 1985 and 1987, the head of access services from 1987 until 1991, the assistant director of administration services from 1991 to 1997 and the director of libraries between 1997 and 2018, whereupon he was granted emeritus status.

Mr. Haka obtained a Bachelor of Arts in history from Western Illinois University in 1971 and a Master of Arts in American history from the University of Illinois at Springfield, formerly known as Sangamon State University, in 1976. During this time, he accepted a position at the only state historical library, through which he cultivated a deep passion for his profession, and subsequently earned a Master of Arts in library science from the University of Illinois in 1977. At this point, Mr. Haka enjoyed working with historical collections but wanted a change, which prompted him to secure a role in assisting larger universities with their vast collections of books. In order to continue his career as a library administrator, he graduated with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Kansas in 1981.

Mr. Haka is proud to have spearheaded the acquisition of the ROVI collection for the Michigan State University Libraries, where he was also responsible for curating a comprehensive publicly accessible media collection of nearly 700,000 CDs, more than 160,000 DVDs and more than 17,000 video games valued at about $12 million. Moreover, he is gratified to have accrued nearly $17 million in endowments as the director of libraries for Michigan State University.

In addition to his professional career, Mr. Haka has contributed to the Library of Michigan board of trustees as a member from 2002 to 2006, during which time he served as the chairperson between 2004 and 2005. Additionally, he found success as a consultant to the University of New Haven, the University of Glasgow, Loyola University Chicago and Florida Atlantic University. He is proud to have been presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award from Western Illinois University, and was named as the Michigan Library Association's Librarian of the Year in 2008. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Haka has maintained his affiliation with the American Library Association, the Michigan Library Association, the Michigan Academic Library Association and the Center for Research Libraries.
