Dr. Gioietta Kuo Petravic Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Academia

Dr. Kuo Petravic retired from the field of nuclear physics to focus on her academic work in global environmental matters

ERDENHEIM, PA, June 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Gioietta Kuo Petravic has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Inspired to follow in the steps of Madam Curie, Dr. Kuo Petravic earned a Master of Arts in physics from Cambridge University and a PhD in nuclear physics from the University of Birmingham by the age of 24. While in Birmingham doing her PhD studies, she was put in a team on work on the cyclotron with a state scholar from Yugoslavia, whose brilliant student record at Zagreb University induced his government to send him to Birmingham for further studies in nuclear physics. The two found great successful collaboration in their work together. So much so that later in Paris she left her family to go to Yugoslavia to marry him. They had defied national, ideological, language and cultural and ethnic boundaries to be together and most importantly to work together. In fact, a year later at the Institut Rudjer Boskovic in Zagreb, they had published what is probably the best in the career; an article in the famed US "Physical Review Letters." She served as Atlas Computer fellow at St. Hilda's College of Oxford University. Dr. Kuo Petravic was additionally active in research physics with the French Atomic Energy Commission in Paris, France, the Ruđer Bošković Institute and the Culham Laboratory of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority.

A seasoned research physicist with more than 40 years of experience in plasma and thermonuclear physics, astrophysics, numerical analysis, computer software and nuclear physics, Dr. Kuo Petravic also gained valuable expertise in the field in Princeton University's plasma physics laboratory and Siemens Medical Systems. Due to her wealth of knowledge, she has contributed to more than 70 articles published in peer reviewed journals and has established herself as an expert on global environmental matters, especially within the Chinese press, in recent years. She has since published over 100 articles in both English and Chinese. In addition to recent articles, including "Global Crisis of Water Scarcity," "Achieving Happiness in a Sustainable World" and "What if? Genetically Modified Organisms and Synthetic Life: Future Ethics Questions," Dr. Kuo Petravic has written or co-written several articles in People's Daily in Beijing, with the World Future Society and for such websites as Worldwatch.org and Futuretakes.org.

In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Kuo Petravic is affiliated with the Resident Think Tank through the American Center for International Policy Studies, with which she is a senior fellow. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is incredibly proud of becoming an expert in computer tomography in 3D image reconstruction and obtaining two patents, obtaining the Ruder Boskovic Prize for Excellence in Physics, and publishing several articles in "World Environment," which is the magazine of the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection. In addition to her many articles, she authored a memoir in 2010 titled "China My Other Country," which chronicles her life – from being raised on the cusp of several cultures to becoming a brilliant academic to falling in love and growing into a global environmental expert. Looking toward the future, Dr. Kuo Petravic intends to experience the continued success of her work in academia.
