Following in her parents' footsteps, Ms. Skinner began her career with Bombardier Aerospace Learjet as a Senior Nomenclature Technician during the mid-1990s. Alongside her work with the organization, she has also fostered her love of photography in recent years, establishing Melisa Skinner Photography in 2017. By October 2020, she had photographed all 105 Kansas Counties and has written a travel blog about her experiences. She notes that once she retires from Bombardier Aerospace Learjet, she will focus her attention solely on her eponymously named photography company.
An expert in her field, Ms. Skinner holds an architectural drafting certificate through Wichita Area Technical College, which she obtained in 1990. More recently, she completed various photography courses at City Arts Wichita, including "Lighting for Photographers: Portraiture," "DSLR Intro, Level 1 through Level 5," "Intro to Macro Photography and Advanced Macro," "Adobe Lightroom 1 and 2." She also received a certificate of completion in photography in 2018, and in 2021, she took several online Photoshop Composite classes through Nucly.
In light of her outstanding contributions to the aerospace industry, she received an Earning Your Wings 510 Award in 2011, an Earning Your Wings L23 Award in 2012 and an Achieving Excellence Gold Award in 2015. She was also honored for her service as a juror in 2017.
Dedicated to her local community, Ms. Skinner has devoted herself to various organizations throughout her career, including the Kansas Humane Society, for whom she is a past volunteer. Looking toward the future, she intends to experience the continued success of her career with both Bombardier Aerospace Learjet and Melisa Skinner Photography. Through her photography company, she aims to celebrate her home and tell the world about what a wonderful place Kansas is.
