AUBURN, WA, June 18, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ekene "Kennie" Amaefule has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A compassionate woman by nature, Ms. Amaefule was told from a young age that she would make a wonderful nurse. While earning dual bachelor's degrees at the University of Washington, she collaborated with the Lola Hallowell Model & Talent Agency and embarked on a short, but fulfilling, modeling and acting career. After obtaining small parts in such movies as "House of Games" and "Divorce Wars," starring Tom Selleck, and becoming one of the first Black women to model for Cover Girl, Ms. Amaefule began her nursing career.
During the 1990s and early-2000s, Ms. Amaefule gained valuable expertise in the field as the director and owner of Competent Care Nursing Services, the regional director and weekend supervisor of All Seasons Corporation and a staff nurse with Harborview Medical Center. She subsequently worked at several clinics in the Seattle and Monroe, Washington, areas as an advanced nurse practitioner and as a VACO-appointed national polytrauma field advisor. In recent years, Ms. Amaefule channeled her significant expertise into her role as a nurse manager with the Puget Sound VA, where she achieved numerous accreditations, wrote and updated Rehab Care Services Policies and Procedures and maintained up-to-date knowledge regarding the latest trends and techniques in the nursing field.
Drawing on her outstanding breadth of knowledge, Ms. Amaefule excels today as a level three nurse senior clinical reviewer with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In this context, she reviews all patient care. Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Amaefule has pursued continued education, earning an associate degree in nursing from Seattle Central Community College, and a Master of Nursing and certificate in nursing leadership and management in long-term care through the University of Washington.
Alongside her work in the field, Ms. Amaefule serves as the founder of Caring Hearts International. A native of Nigeria, she routinely coordinates medical missions to her home country. Crowned "Ugochinyere," or "An Eagle from Above," for her efforts in Nigeria, she also oversaw funding for the drilling of a new well and established a clinic with a women's center, where local women can learn to read, write and develop other marketable skills. Additionally, Ms. Amaefule visits remote areas to address HIV/AIDS and health awareness education. She also established an education fund for children in her native village.
For her professional body of work, Ms. Amaefule has been bestowed with numerous accolades. In addition to being honored in 100 Distinguished Nurse Influencers through UW and named as a National Woman of Empowerment through POWER, she received a Humanitarian Award in 2015, was recognized with the Inspirational Woman of the Year Award in 2004 and won a Community Service Award in 2017. Looking toward the future, Ms. Amaefule intends to experience continued success in her current position while fostering additional charitable work with Caring Hearts International.
