Since 1995, Ms. Nekervis has found much success in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, advancing to the ranks of second lieutenant, first lieutenant and major. Since 2010, she has served as a captain with the 399th Combat Support Hospital as well as an intensive care unit flight nurse, emergency department nurse and chief nurse. Responsible for advising the commander and technical advisors with respect to health management for the hospital, Ms. Nekervis is responsible for credentialing administration, clinical care quality assurance, supervising current protocols, establishing new protocols when necessary and ensuring that all soldiers, doctors and nurses are credentialed.
Additionally, Ms. Nekervis accepted the role of intensive care unit registered nurse at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Sterling, Massachusetts in 2003. She is presently working toward a master's degree in strategic strategy planning at the U.S. Naval War College. To better support her nursing career, Ms. Nekervis is an active member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association and the Eta Omega chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International.
Greatly influenced by an extensive family history that includes generations of service in the U.S. Army, Ms. Nekervis began her career in the military as a combat medic, eventually working her way to becoming a licensed practical nurse and registered nurse. She was also instrumental in rewriting the overall protocols of army flight nursing care to become more streamlined. In addition to being featured in several books, Ms. Nekervis was the co-author of a 2007 article with Joseph S. Blansfield, "Memorable Marine: The Battle of Coagulopathy," which was published in the Journal of Emergency Nursing.
Ms. Nekervis initially earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing, magna cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts. She subsequently obtained her certification as a critical care flight nurse through the Joint Enroute Critical Care Flight School and the U.S. Army. For her tenacity and hard work, she was decorated with a multitude of awards from the U.S. Army, including a Joint Service Achievement Medal, an Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Kosovo Campaign Medal, and a Bronze Star Medal. During her military service, she was notably deployed to Iraq. In the coming years, Ms. Nekervis aspires to become a lieutenant colonel.
