Robert Aiello graduated from St. Paul School in Garden City, New York in 1977. Afterwards, he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut in 1981 while also studying at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1980. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, he gained valuable experience working at the New York State Department of Labor. While attending Fordham University School of Law, Mr. Aiello served as a Campaign Aide for Governor Mario Cuomo and as a law intern in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.
Upon graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Fordham University School of Law in 1984, Mr. Aiello began his legal career working as an Assistant District Attorney in the Queens County District Attorney's Office. He served in the Criminal Court Bureau, Grand Jury Bureau, Supreme Court Bureau, Major Offense Bureau and Homicide Trial Bureau.
After 8 years in public service, Mr. Aiello became a founding member and partner in the law firm of Aiello & Cannick which specializes in State and Federal Criminal defense work. While in private practice, he also served as Counsel to the Codes Committee of the New York State Assembly under the leadership of then Chairman, Joseph R. Lentol.
As an expert in his field, Mr. Aiello has been admitted to practice in the State of New York, District of Columbia and the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Southern and Eastern District of New York as well as in the Supreme Court of the United States.
For his outstanding work in the field of criminal defense, he was recognized among the Best Criminal Defense Attorneys on Long Island by Long Island Pulse Magazine in 2009 and the Top 100 Power Lawyers in Criminal Defense by Lawyers of Distinction. He was also honored as the Lawyer of the Year for Criminal Defense through the American Institute of Legal Professionals and likewise cited among the Top 100 Criminal Defense Attorneys in the State of New York by the National Trial Lawyers in 2020.
Outside of his legal profession, Mr. Aiello is an active member of the Board of Directors for the Don Monti Foundation at North Shore/LIJ Hospital and serves as President of Maspeth Town Hall. He was a former member of the Board of Governors for the Columbia Citizens Foundation as well as the former Chairman of the High School Scholarship Committee for the Columbus Citizens Foundation. He continues to dedicate his time as the Founder and President of the Point Pirouette Homeowners Foundation as well as the Founder and Chairman of the Patchogue Shores Beach Beautification Committee.
Additionally, Mr. Aiello has been affiliated with the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Queens County Bar Association and the Columbian Lawyers Association. Recently, he was nominated to serve on the screening committee for the selection of judges by the Nassau County Democratic Party.
