PERTH, AUSTRALIA, July 13, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Nicholas Clarke, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Clarke celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As principal consultant for Imtech Proprietary Ltd. in Australia since 1992, Dr. Clarke is a talented and tenured mining expert currently involved with the Quebradona Project, a Greenfield copper-gold project in Antioquia, Columbia. Providing consultancy services in mineral processing operations as well as project and process design and development, he previously worked as an employee of AngloGold Ashanti between 2011 and 2020. Dr. Clarke has notably worked on two other projects as well: the Tropicana Project and the Gramalote Project.

With more than 50 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Clarke boasts expertise in minerals and environmental engineering process development with precious metals, base metals, mineral sands, and iron ore, as well as superb project development and operations management skills. Beginning his career in the late 1960s, he was initially hired by Boliden Mining Company as a member of its arc furnace maintenance crew. Dr. Clarke further flourished with the Falconbridge Nickel Mines as a mill operator and Sierra Leone Development Company Ltd. as a mineral process engineer.

After completing his doctoral work in 1975, Dr. Clarke became a lecturer at Papua New Guinea University of Technology in Lae, teaching courses in mineral technology for three years. During this short time, he was instrumental as the foundation lecturer for a course in mineral technology, which still produces graduates to this day. Dr. Clarke then cemented his professional reputation with Bougainville Copper Ltd. in various leading roles between 1977 and 1986.

Notably presented with a fellowship by the Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in 1985, Dr. Clarke found success over the next 20 years with several other industry organizations before being recruited by AngloGold Ashanti Australia Ltd. as a senior process engineer. To better support his career, Dr. Clarke is a prominent member of the Australian Institution of Mining and Metallurgy.

An incredibly rewarding field, Dr. Clarke notes that it is very easy for people to forget just how significant mines are to civilization. During his career, he has witnessed several substantial changes such as the scale of equipment items and the ability to measure and process large amounts of data. More recently, Dr. Clarke has also noticed a shift in perspective regarding the controversial challenge where mines can operate in a manner that is more acceptable to the community, both locally and globally. The safety and environmental effects of waste disposal, the efforts to reduce impacts on water supply and carbon footprint are all hot topics in the industry today.

As a part of his civic commitments, Dr. Clarke has managed a very popular science club at an all-girls' school for over 10 years, which encouraged hundreds of young girls to pursue careers in science. From a creative aspect, he has also enjoyed his involvement in stage lighting work in the U.K., Papua New Guinea, and Australia. Likewise, Dr. Clarke has worked on over 100 amateur shows.

Born in Ipswich, England, Dr. Clarke later earned a Bachelor of Science in mineral technology, with honors, from The Royal School of Mines in London in 1969. He later graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in flotation modelling from the University of Leeds in 1975. Certified in his field, Dr. Clarke has also completed several continuing education courses.
