Molly M. Penny Celebrates a Fulfilling Career as an Educator

Ms. Penny has found success in serving her hometown community of Waukegan



For 40 years, Molly M. Penny established herself as an elementary first through third grade teacher in the District 60 Waukegan Public Schools.

    BEACH PARK, IL, July 13, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Molly M. Penny has been included in Marquis Who's Who. For 40 years, Ms. Penny established herself as an elementary first through third grade teacher in the District 60 Waukegan Public Schools. She specialized in teaching Language Arts and communication skills. Following a long and fulfilling professional journey, Ms. Penny retired in 2000.

Having acquired a passion in early childhood to become an educator, cultivated a desire to work in education, Ms. Penny (neé Springs) served as a mentor and confidant to her peers while attending elementary and high school. Carrying this passion with her while coming of age, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in education from Northern Illinois University in 1959. Ms. Penny also earned a master's degree from National Louis University in 1970 while attending night school, teaching during the daytime, and assisting her spouse, Julian R. Penny in raising five daughters.

Born and raised in Waukegan, Illinois, Ms. Penny is gratified to have been a staple in the community for her entire life. During this time, she had the opportunity to form many personal relationships with the generations of families she has taught. Moreover, Ms. Penny has been committed to improving the quality of life within Waukegan as the former president of the Waukegan Uptown Lions Club. She also served as Lions Clubs International District 1F Governor during 2013-2014.

For her contributions and dedication to the profession of teaching, she was awarded the National Education Award in 2000. Throughout her career, she has maintained her membership with the Illinois Teachers Union and the National Education Association. Looking toward the future, Ms. Penny hopes to continue participating with the Waukegan Uptown Lions Club through meetings, field service and the mentorship of young members.
