Sai-Ching Jim Yeung, PhD, MD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Yeung is an internist who has been affiliated with the world's premier cancer center, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, for the past 24 years. Joined the faculty in 1997 as an assistant internist and assistant professor of medicine, he was later named Director of Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine. Today, Dr. Yeung serves as a full Professor of Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Division of Internal Medicine, where he teaches both residents and fellows. He also conducts extensive research in his laboratory, where he has focused on a number of projects over the years, recently including the measurement and interpretation of hormones, cytokines and biomarkers in cancer patients with various clinical conditions. During his career, Dr. Yeung has notably specialized in endocrinology, metabolism and cancer research. He is an expert in the areas of oncologic emergency, pharmacoepidemiology, endocrine and metabolic complications in cancer patients, the impact that diabetes and obesity have on cancer and other malignancies, experimental cancer therapeutics, and cancer signal transduction. Earlier in his career, Dr. Yeung also focused on the study of anaplastic thyroid cancer.

Apart from his current work at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Yeung was associated with The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences for 22 years. He held a joint appointment from 1997 to 2019. He also had many additional experience before his years in medicine. He had worked as a staff pharmacist at Sun Belt Regional Medical Center in Houston and St. Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri.

A prolific writer, Dr. Yeung has edited and authored several books, including "Oncologic Emergency" and "Oncologic Emergency Medicine: Principles and Practice," both in 2016 and the most recent editions are in press. He has also contributed over 170 peer-reviewed articles to scholarly journals (Google Scholar metrics: Citations=7341, h-index=44, i10-index=118), as well as several book chapters, covering such topics as oncology for health care professionals, and was the academic editor of PLOS ONE and Annals of Medicine.

Dr. Yeung received the degrees of a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy in 1983, a Master of Science in biology in1985 and a Doctor of Philosophy in biology in 1988, all from the University of Houston. He then completed a Doctor of Medicine at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in 1991, followed by a medical internship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, an internal medicine residency at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals, Baylor College of Medicine, and a fellowship in endocrinology at the Joint University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine Training Program. Dr. Yeung is board certified in internal medicine and had a subspecialty board certification in endocrinology and metabolism. He is also a licensed physician and registered pharmacist in the State of Texas.

Aligned with several prominent organizations in support of his career, Dr. Yeung is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Thyroid Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Heart County Medical Association and the American Association for Cancer Research. He is also an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Yeung received a Fellowship Award in Endocrinology and was a Vietnam Education Foundation U.S. faculty scholar on two occasions. Honored for his professional career with several achievements, including a Research Excellence Award from the University of Houston's biology department and the Wendell Griffith Award in Biochemistry from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, he is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been included in the second edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
