In addition, he found success as a financial advisor for MetLife Insurance. Prior to his tenure in finance, Mr. Desai was a research specialist at the University of Pennsylvania from 1974 to 2002.
Mr. Desai was born in Bilimora, in the state of Gujarat, India. He arrived in the United States in 1971 and earned a Master of Science in chemistry from St. Joseph's University in 1974. Mr. Desai later returned to St. Joseph's University to graduate with a Master of Business Administration in 1984.
In the years before becoming a United States citizen, Mr. Desai pursued an education at India's Gujarat University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1968 as well as a Master of Science in 1970. He was recognized as an India Merit scholar at the Mafatlal Gagalbhai Science Institute from 1964 to 1968. Mr. Desai was initially interested in pursuing a higher education because he wanted the freedom and opportunity to choose his own path.
Mr. Desai is a fellow at the American Institute of Chemists, as well as a member of the Delaware Valley Thermal Analysis Forum, the American Management Association, the North America Thermal Analysis Society, the International Confederation for Thermal Analysis, the American Chemical Institute and the polymer division of the American Chemical Society. He believes that he has been fortunate to have been hired directly out of college and that his research thesis helped him achieve all of his goals. Moreover, he expertly utilizes his philosophy of never accepting "no" as an answer. Mr. Desai is also a regular contributor to professional journals, political opinion articles and international science publications.
