Mr. Wright is also Chairman of the Investment Committee of ClearSky Power and Technology Fund LLC, Surry Capital and ClearSky Security Fund. He is also Chairman of SNA, Chairman of Altamira, and Executive Chairman of Sequoia, as well as being a Board member of Systems Control and the Council of Chief Executives. He also is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Economic Club of New York, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) and the Reagan Alumni Board.
Mr. Wright's experience in both the public and private sectors is unique. In the U.S. Government, he was a member of President Reagan's Cabinet, Director of the Office of Management and Budget and Deputy Secretary of Commerce. In addition, he was Co-Chairman of seven Federal Regional Commissions, and on the Board of Directors of the National Consumer Cooperative Bank.
In prior Administrations, Mr. Wright held several senior economic and management posts in the Federal Departments of Commerce and Agriculture, including Acting Director of the Social and Economic Statistics Administration, which reports the key economic statistics for the U.S., and the U.S. Census Bureau where he oversaw the final stages of the 1970 Census. He established the first Social Indicators Report, and set up the first private sector centers for the public to obtain demographic and social information in a timely fashion.
Mr. Wright was appointed to the President's Export Council by President H.W. Bush as Chairman of the Export Control Sub-Committee, was appointed by President W. Bush to the President's Commission on the U.S. Postal Service Reform, the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC) and the FCC's Network Reliability and Interoperability Council and Media and Security Reliability Council, and served as a member of The Defense Business Board under Presidents Bush, Obama and Trump. He was also an Advisory Board member for the Council for Excellence in Government. He has an active Top-Secret clearance with the U.S. Government.
In the private sector, Mr. Wright has been Chairman or CEO of large, public/private companies, has been on numerous Boards of Directors, and has been/is a Senior Advisor to private equity firms. He was Chairman of Intelsat, the world's leading provider of satellite/fiber services, with a global fleet of over 50 satellites servicing over 200 countries; CEO of PanAmSat, a public global satellite-based services business, focused on providing video worldwide, which was acquired by Intelsat; CEO and Director of Scientific Games, a public company providing technology-based gaming products, systems and services to 43 states and over 60 countries worldwide; Chairman of GRC International Inc., a public company providing advanced IT technologies primarily to Government customers; Co-Chairman of Baker & Taylor Holdings, Inc., an international book/video/software distribution and e-commerce company; and EVP, Vice Chairman and Director of W.R. Grace & Company, Chairman of Grace Energy Company and President of Grace Environmental Company. He was also Executive Chairman of Seamobile/MTN, Chairman of FedData, Senior Advisor to Providence Equity, Vice Chairman of Terremark, Vice Chairman of Jefferson Consulting and was previously Director of Travelers, Harcourt Brace Janovich, Kroll, EBIX, Cowen, Priority Holdings, Titan, Proxim, RealMed, Federal Signal, Education Management Corporation (EDMC), Hampton University, AT&T Government Markets, Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, and others.
Early in his career, Mr. Wright was President of several credit card subsidiaries of Citibank; Vice President/Partner of Booz Allen and Hamilton; a Professor at George Washington University in Operations Research, and a market analyst at both Socony Mobile and Esso.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Wright earned a Professional Engineering Degree at Colorado School of Mines, and a Master's Degree at Yale University. He also served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant in the Army's Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Wright was honored for his leadership and achievements with a Distinguished Citizens Award from President Ronald Reagan, a Distinguished Achievement Award from Colorado School of Mines and a Government Computer News Annual Award for Excellence at the Government Computer Expo. Among his many accolades, however, Mr. Wright feels most fortunate to have been married to his wife, Ellen, a well-known decorator, painter and author for almost 40 years, for it was she who had the most influence on his life and made the biggest impact on his decisions.
