Born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, Mr. Johnson took inspiration from the example of his great-grandfather, who settled in the area during the 1880s. Suffused with pride for his home city, he strove to pursue a career that would allow him to give back to the community that had given him so much already. After graduating from high school, Mr. Johnson began working for the city of Evanston in 1989.
Presently, Mr. Johnson works as a recycling and environmental maintenance supervisor for the city. Throughout the course of his career, he is most proud to have helped increase the efficiency of recycling operations in Evanston. Through this program, the city government was able to expand recycling options to many multi-family apartments, encompassing roughly 300 properties and 6,700 apartment units.
As an accomplished professional, Mr. Johnson has been grateful to his mentor, Glenn Crabtree, who encouraged the younger man to work hard and demonstrate dedication in everything he does. His tutelage helped prepare Mr. Johnson for managerial responsibilities. Looking toward the future, he hopes to begin training his successor and eventually retire.
