DAVENPORT, IA, July 27, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquise Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Harry G Hoyt with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Hoyt celebrates many years' experience in his profession, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Upon earning a bachelor of arts in economics from Carleton College in 1959, Mr. Hoyt entered the U.S. Navy as a line officer. Four years later, he departed from the military and began his first career with Deere & Company, where he held several roles, including Personal Manager at two factories and Manager Salary Administration Overseas where he traveled to countries where Deere had facilities. His final positions at Deere where Manager of Compensation Worldwide and Manager of Employee Benefits. In this capacity he negotiated benefits with the UAW and other unions as a part of the company's negotiating team. He retired in March 1996 after 33 years.
Shortly after retiring from Deere and supported by his considerable expertise in personnel management and human resources, Mr. Hoyt began his second career serving as consultant to the Commission on Ministry of the Presbytery of East Iowa. The Presbytery consisted of 72 Presbyterian churches in east Iowa. He substantially reorganized the operation of the Commission. His most important work was mediating conflicts within churches that were a part of the Presbytery. He developed and wrote the Pastor Compensation Program that replaced the then current compensation system in use by all churches in the Presbytery. It was adopted in 1998 and is still in use. He served the Presbytery for 21 years, retiring from this second career in September 2018.
He is a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Davenport and has served in several capacities over the years, including chairing the personnel committee, serving on its governing body, and chairing a $2 million rebuilding project. He wrote a number of policy and procedures for the church including a complete manual of operations, substantial rewrite of the personnel manual, major amendments to the church's bylaws and chaired a committee that developed the policies and procedures for the protection of children in the church. He later adapted that policy for use of churches in the Presbytery and it was implemented by most of them. He developed and wrote major amendments for the church's Development Fund to turn it into a foundation with four funding sources.
He was also a founder of the Quint City Drug Abuse Council and served as its president for six years from 1971-1977. For his professional excellence, a gymnasium, that was a part of a residence facility of the Council, was dedicated in his name.
From 1974 – 1976 he was a member of the Iowa Drug Abuse Advisory Council reporting to and advising the Iowa Legislature on proposed drug related legislation. In 1977 he was also on the Governor's Task Force to advise the governor on the advisability of merging of Iowa State drug abuse and alcoholism agencies.
Mr. Hoyt was a founder and director of the United Saving Association for seven years from 1977 - 1984 and president for two of those years.
In the economic turn down that enveloped the country in the late 1980s, he cochaired a committee of leaders from the cities that comprised the Quad Cities. It was called Quad Cities Vision for the Future. This effort lasted for approximately five years and included participation of approximately 800 people during that period.
He was also a director of the Vera French Community Mental Health Center for twelve years. He was elected Secretary of the Board and member of the Executive Committee in 1999.
Since discharge from the Navy, Mr. Hoyt has owned several small businesses, including apartment and office buildings and a carwash and service station. He found that lessons learned apply to organizations of any size.
For his substantial contributions throughout the community he has received recognition from such organizations as the Vera French Community Mental Health Center, the Council on International Compensation, the Quint Cities Drug Abuse Council, United Way of the Quad Cities, and a plaque from the Quad Cities Vision for the Future, which sums up his accomplishments in the above organizations among others which reads in part, "…for recognition for outstanding leadership and dedicated contributions to the Quad City community."
Mr. Hoyt has gotten substantial pleasure out of his hobby of photography. He has combined that with his interest in international travel by writing approximately a thousand pages comprised of text and photographs of several countries he has visited, including Italy, India, Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar. He has also written a book describing his wife, Gay's battling cancer through a bone marrow transplant titled, Back from the Brink, a Love Story. He has a great appreciation of various forms of art and enjoys art in his home.
This narrative is mostly about his accomplishments in the community and during two careers. But he claims much of the credit must go to my wife of 45 years, Gay Hoyt, prior to her death, and to their six children for the substantial love and support they provided him through all of these endeavors.
Mr. Hoyt enjoys spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and intends to do more of it in the future. He is now in the process of developing a program for his younger grandchildren to learn the rudiments of investing for the future.
