SHREWSBURY, MA, July 29, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Paula J. Toti with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Toti celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Dedicated to teaching students the importance of exercise and good health, Ms. Toti is a physical education teacher for grades nine through 12 at Shrewsbury High School. Celebrating over 20 years with the district, she was initially hired in 2000. She also teaches the adventure program to ninth and tenth graders, which trains students to work together, build trust and gain responsibility. The program includes outdoor climbing in which students are harnessed on ropes and eventually work their way to heights of approximately 35 feet in the air.
Ms. Toti has been involved in education for more than 30 years. During the 1990s, she coached at Burrillville High School, and she later coached softball for 11 years at Shrewsbury High School, where she helped lead her team to the Division 1 State Championship in 2006. She retired from her coaching position in 2012, concluding the year with a 15-4 record. That same year, she also retired from her 12-year tenure coaching field hockey. In doing so, Ms. Toti allowed herself more time to devote to implementing physical activity and nutritional programs for students through the Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP) grant that the high school received.
During her career in Shrewsbury, Ms. Toti has served as a board member of the Shrewsbury Athletic High School Booster Club for over 16 years. She has also operated as a new teacher mentor since 2018 and vice president of the Shrewsbury Education Association since 2019. Previously, she spent several years on the school's health advisory committee between 2012 and 2015 and was a class adviser between 2005 and 2020. Inspired by giving back to her community, Ms. Toti has long been the groundskeeper for the Pascoag Community Baptist Church in Pascoag, Rhode Island, since 1985.
Ms. Toti played sports in high school, and after her high school field hockey coach asked her what she wanted to do after graduation, she thought about it at length. Realizing that she needed her career to incorporate physical activity, she began studying at the Community College of Rhode Island during 1985, then at Dean College during 1986. Transferring to Rhode Island College, she ultimately received a Bachelor of Science in physical education in 1991 and a master's degree in education at the University of New England in 2003.
In a career full of highlights, Ms. Toti was featured in a 1984 Sports Illustrated article called 'Faces in the Crowd.' She also received numerous athletic awards between 1984 and 1985, was inducted into the Burrillville High School Hall of Fame in 2005 and was recognized with a Superintendent Award from Shrewsbury High School in 2020.
