NEW YORK, NY, July 29, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Cherry-Ann Joseph-Hislop has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Driven to help every child succeed, Dr. Joseph-Hislop entered the field of education, culminating in her current role as a school principal for the New York City Department of Development. In this capacity, she manages the P.S. 59 William Floyd School of Professional Studies. Though the school was failing when she joined, along with former principal, Dr. Dawn Best, she was able to reverse the school's fortunes and helped it achieve good standing in the state of New York. Additionally, Dr. Joseph-Hislop successfully implemented common core learning standards that aligned curricula and increased student proficiency in English and mathematics.
Prior to assuming the role of Principal of P.S. 59, Dr. Joseph-Hislop worked as an assistant principal at the school, where she monitored the performance of more than 30 teachers, managed activities for all stakeholders of the school and began serving as a consultant in education for several private school systems around the world. Earlier, she gained valuable expertise in the field as staff developer for P.S. 376 Felisa Rincon de Gautier Elementary School, a special education master teacher with the Brooklyn School for Global Studies, and a special education lead teacher for the Arts and Media Prep High School HS 589. Prior to her tenure at New York, Dr. Joseph-Hislop served as a piano and voice teacher for Jack-Hayward High School in the Bahamas.
A student-focused educational leader, Dr. Joseph-Hislop, born in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Andrew University, a master's degree in special and inclusive education from the University of Sheffield and a Doctor of Education in leadership and administration from Concordia University. Throughout the course of her career, she has also earned a plethora of certifications, including creating emotionally intelligent schools from Yale University, school turnaround leadership from Harvard University, Applied Behavior Analysis from Hunter College of CUNY, and in therapeutic crisis intervention in schools from the New York City Department of Education.
In light of her professional expertise, Dr. Joseph-Hislop contributed to "A Data-Driven Approach to Teaching Literacy" through the United Federation of Teachers in 2013. In recognition of her outstanding work, she received a Women of Distinction Award from the New York State Assembly in 2017 and 2019, a Certificate of Recognition from the New York State Comptroller in 2019, a Brooklyn Borough President Citation in 2019, a finalist for the Principal of the Year Award in 2018 and 2019, and a Proclamation from the New York State Senate in 2020. Looking toward to the future, Dr. Joseph-Hislop aims to serve as a school turnaround specialist, pursuant to her quest of making a difference on an even larger scale.
