Dr. Wilson is a pharmacologist, toxicologist, and molecular geneticist who is presently teaching in the department of environmental sciences, college of the coast and environment, and serving as director of undergraduate programs at Louisiana State University (LSU). He is also presently the chairman of the university's radiation safety committee on campus.

A faculty member of LSU since 1994, Dr. Wilson began his career as an associate professor and later became a full professor in 2001. He notably spent 14 years as the Claiborne endowed chair of environmental toxicology and as the chairman of the interdepartmental program of toxicology beginning in 1995. During his teaching career, Dr. Wilson was responsible for developing seven courses in toxicology, cancer, genetics, and honors environmental science, directing numerous dissertations and theses, and participating as dean's representative for dozens of graduate committees for PhD students. He also participated on numerous university committees for academic governance and policies.

Besides his work as an educator, Dr. Wilson served as a scientific consultant with both small business and judicial cases. For nearly two decades, he consulted in pharmacology, toxicology, environmental toxicology and the molecular genetics of cancer for legal cases. He was a private consultant for 18 years, beginning in 2000.

As a scholar, Dr. Wilson has focused his studies on cancer research, molecular genetics of human disease and toxicology. He has disseminated his work by contributing nearly 60 peer-reviewed articles to various scientific journals, as well as 70 published abstracts and 11 book chapters. Respected for his expertise, Dr. Wilson has notably hosted more than 75 training lectures at institutions, hospitals and other locations throughout the country as well as internationally.

A self-taught artist, Dr. Wilson began painting in 1980. Over the years, several of his works were selected for inclusion in numerous art exhibitions. His 2001 painting "Rocky Mountain Pica" also received acclaim, and several of his paintings were selected as finalists in various art competitions.

Dr. Wilson obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry at Sonoma State University in 1973, a Master of Science in physical chemistry at the University of California, Davis in 1976, and a Doctor of Philosophy in pharmacology and toxicology at Oregon State University in 1980. He completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Southern California's comprehensive cancer center and the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Wilson was certified by the New York State Department of Public Health from 1990 to 1997 as a laboratory director in clinical genetic testing services.

Dr. Wilson is a member of several industry-related organizations, including the American Chemical Society, the American Society for Human Genetics, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society for Cell Biology and the Society of Toxicology. To support his art career, he is also a member of the Art Guild of Louisiana and the International Guild of Realism.

Over the past decade, Dr. Wilson has been recognized numerous times by LSU for his contributions to academia, including receiving a Dean's Outstanding Award from the college of the coast and environment in 2011. He was also honored with an Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award in 2014, the Tiger Athletic Foundation Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2016 and 2018, and the Joseph Lipsey Jr. & Richard A. Lipsey Excellence in Teaching Award in 2020. Furthermore, Dr. Wilson was the recipient of numerous grants. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in the 63rd edition of Who's Who in America and the 25th and 26th editions of Who's Who in the West.
