HENDERSON, NV, August 05, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Troy S. Watson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Watson initially earned a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences with a minor in business administration from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles in 1987. He followed this academic accomplishment with a Master of Science in anatomy and cell biology from USC in 1990. Dr. Watson concluded his formal education with a Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University in 1994.
Dr. Watson began his career in the medical field with an internship at the University of California Los Angeles' department of general surgery in 1995. He later excelled as a resident in the department of orthopedic surgery at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans from 1994 to 1999. Dr. Watson further completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Miller Orthopedic Clinic, now known as OrthoCarolina, in Charlotte, North Carolina from 1999 to 2000 under the direction of Bob Anderson, MD and Hodges Davis, MD. During his fellowship, Dr. Watson served as the consultant to the North Carolina Dance Theater as well as participated in the care of professional athletes, including the Carolina Panthers (NFL) and Charlotte Hornets (NBA).
Since starting his practice with Desert Orthopaedic Center in 2000, Dr. Watson founded the Foot and Ankle Institute and an educational website for patients, www.feetmd.com. The Institute strives to educate patients, participate in clinical research and excel in patient care. He also established the Las Vegas Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Fellowship in 2013, helping to educate and train the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. Dr. Watson and his team are active in research, resulting in numerous publications. Additionally, Dr. Watson has given over 200 academic presentations nationally and internationally. From a philanthropy standpoint, he and his family started a local shoe event for the underprivileged in 2006 which has grown year after year. Today, through a partnership with Zappos, the charity serves 1500-2000 individuals with shoes and socks in an annual event held just before Thanksgiving. Dr. Watson and his wife Judy reside in Henderson and have twin boys (Skyler and Clayton) and a younger daughter (Chloe). His family is active in various sporting, church and community activities. Dr. Watson spends much of his free time staying fit with various activities including running, cycling, mountain biking and weight lifting. Dr. Watson is most passionate about photography which has remained his hobby since he was a child. He continues to capture images both locally and around the world as he travels with his family. Dr. Watson worked closely with Dr. Robert Anderson, a consultant for the Green Bay Packers and team physician for the Carolina Panthers, and Hodges Davis, consultant to the North Carolina Dance Theater. This combined exposure gives Dr. Watson exceptional experience in dealing with sports related injuries and on the local level he is a foot and ankle consultant for the UNLV Rebels, Las Vegas Raiders, UFC and both the Golden and Silver Knights hockey teams.
He has also found much success as an educator with the Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine since 2004 where he has taught medical students the intricacies of an orthopaedic surgery practice. Likewise, Dr. Watson has been recruited as an adjunct clinical professor of orthopedic surgery for the primary care sports medicine fellowship at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Medicine since 2017. Most recently, he has taken on the role as program director for the orthopedic surgery residency with OPTI West/Valley Hospital Medical Center since 2019. The program trains a total of 10 residents at any one time and Dr. Watson oversees the daily activity of this program, striving to make this one of the better private practice training programs in the country. In addition to the above academic duties, Dr. Watson continues to specialty train 1-2 fellows a year for a career in foot and ankle surgery. Lastly, Dr. Watson has worked as peer reviewer and foot and ankle specialist with SAGE, a renowned educational resource publisher, as well as with trade journals such as Foot and Ankle International and Techniques in Foot and Ankle Surgery.
Dr. Watson has served with distinction as a member of the practice management committee of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society since 2003, served on the American Orthopeadic Foot and Ankle Society Foundation Board as a member at large and then as president from 2011-2016. He has acted as secretary on the board of directors for The Surgery Center at Desert Orthopedic Center since 2005 and the president of the Desert Orthopedic Research Foundation since 2016.
Dr. Watson has been the recipient of numerous awards since beginning his practice including the Inspired Excellence in Healthcare Award, Las Vegas (2017); Named to Top Doctors, Orthopaedic Surgery, Desert Companion (NPR) (2019, 2020, 2021); Ranked Top 10% of Class, Alpha Omega Alpha, Georgetown University (1994); Named to Dean's List for Five Semesters, University of Southern California; Trojan Academic Excellence Award and Freshman Writing Honors, University of Southern California; Named to Golden Key National Honor Society.

Initially desiring to be a veterinarian, Dr. Watson shifted his attention to orthopedics and sports medicine at a young age. He attributes his success to his hard work and perseverance as well as his "grit" and his refusal to give up.
