NATICK, MA, August 13, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present C. Michael Gibson, MS, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Gibson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Gibson is a renowned interventional cardiologist, researcher and educator with nearly 30 years of experience to his credit. Employed since 2000 with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, he treats patients by using various interventional methods, including placing stents in the arteries of the heart to free up blockages. Among his other appointments at the center, he has been chief of clinical research for 20 years. Since 2017, Dr. Gibson has served as the president and chief executive officer of the Baim Institute for Clinical Research. Located in the Greater Boston area, the institute, which was formerly known as the Harvard Clinical Research Institute, serves as a leading nonprofit academic research organization.

Dr. Gibson has been employed as a faculty member at Harvard Medical School for 30 years. Hired in 1987 as chairman and founder of the PERFUSE, which is an academic research organization on campus, he also began teaching as a professor of medicine in 2012.

Apart from his full-time commitments, Dr. Gibson has been a member of the Food and Drug Administration's Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Committee (CRDAC) since 2017. The CRDAC reviews and evaluates the safety and effectiveness of products specifically related to the treatment of cardiovascular and renal disorders. Dr. Gibson is also the founder, chairman of the board and editor-in-chief of the WikiDoc Foundation since 2005. Headquartered in Boston, the foundation is the world's first and largest medical wiki. Viewed millions of times per year, it is comprised of over 2,200 authors and physician contributors, with approximately 100,000 chapters. Established as a free source of medical materials, Dr. Gibson launched the site after discovering that many underserved countries and communities could not afford to buy medical textbooks.

Previously, Dr. Gibson was the associate chief of cardiology and chief of interventional cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco. He also worked as the director of invasive cardiology and vice chairman of medicine and medical research at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition, he served as chief of the cardiovascular division and director of interventional cardiology at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center.

During his prestigious career in medicine, Dr. Gibson oversaw several clinical trials, ranging from phase one to phase four. He also oversaw several cardiology megatrials of up to tens of thousands of patients, which led to international approval of drugs such as prasugrel, rivaroxaban and betrixaban.

Dr. Gibson earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and MD at the University of Chicago in 1982, 1984 and 1986, respectively. He then completed an internship and residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital where he notably served to chief resident and completed a fellowship in cardiology at Beth Israel Hospital.

Recognized for his achievements, Dr. Gibson is an honorary member of the Turkish and Japanese Societies of Cardiology. Honored for his success, he has also been chosen as one of Boston's Top Doctors in Boston Magazine, has been named to Castle Connolly's Top Doctors several times, and has been selected as one of America's Top Physicians by U.S. News and World Report.
