Dr. Han obtained a Master of Science in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in 1989 and followed this achievement with a Doctor of Medicine from the School of Medicine at Georgetown University in 1993. He completed an internship in primary care medicine at the Yale-New Haven Hospital in 1994, a residency in anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and the Henry Ford Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan, in 1997, and a fellowship in pain management at the Henry Ford Medical Center, in 1998. Dr. Han holds board certification in anesthesiology from the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) and board certification in pain management from the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), the American Board of Pain Medicine (ABPM), and the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians (ABIPP). Dr. Han is a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP).
Dr. Han has excelled in medical care for over 25 years. Since 1999, he has prospered as a specialist in pain management with Geisinger Health System, a regional health care provider to central, south-central, and northeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Dr. Han served as a section head of acute pain from 2001-2004, the director of pain medicine from 2006 to 2018, and the vice-chair of the division of anesthesiology in pain medicine from 2009 to 2018, and currently serves as an associate. With Geisinger, Dr. Han's former duties included supervising and expanding clinical operations from one to five pain centers, facilitating quality improvements and patient safety, and performing clinical, research, and administrative tasks. Dr. Han was honored for achieving the highest national level of patient satisfaction in 2008.
An accomplished professional, Dr. Han has accrued numerous awards during his career, including a place in the Top 150 Pain Management Physicians to Know in Becker's ASC Review, a source of news and analysis for ambulatory surgery centers nationwide. In addition, Dr. Han served as the president and executive director for the Pennsylvania Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and in the expert advisory panel for the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Drug & Alcohol Program. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the Sigma Xi Mayo Foundation Chapter, the American Association for Physician Leadership, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Board of Anesthesiology, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physician, and the World Institute of Pain.
Dr. Han attributes his success to the influence and drive of his parents. His father, a physician, immigrated to the U.S. from South Korea, and his mother who was a nurse. In the coming years, Dr. Han would like to invest his interest in innovative technology in healthcare and plan for his retirement.
