Ms. Young's background includes working in Colorado Springs as an education program manager for Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, as a private practice psychotherapist, and as a pregnancy counselor with Lutheran Family Services. She also worked in the city of St. Paul, Minnesota as a health educator for Health Start, a pioneering maternal and child health organization, and with Planned Parenthood of Minnesota as a training assistant.

As an extension of her work, Ms. Young has become a talented writer. She co-authored her first book in 1986, titled "Human Sexuality: Values and Choices." She then co-authored "Understanding Sexuality: Making Healthy Choices" in 1988 and "Sexuality and Our Faith: A Companion to Our Whole Lives for Young Adults" in 2008. Ms. Young was filmed and featured in a resource that notably received a Certificate of Merit from the Chicago Film Festival in 1986 and the American Medical Association in 1989. Ms. Young was also featured in a documentary called "A Passion for Change."

Ms. Young has lent her expertise as an executive leadership coach, serving as an adjunct coach for the Center for Creative Leadership. The global organization offers leadership development for professionals at all levels. Ms. Young serves as a national trainer in the comprehensive sexuality education space. As a result of these contributions, Ms. Young received the "Excellence in Teaching" award from the National United Church of Christ in 2009. Involved in nonprofit leadership, Ms. Young has also volunteered her time serving as board chair of the Citizens Project. Based in Colorado Springs, this organization is a bold advocate for and empowering voice of equity, inclusion and justice. Ms. Young has also served as a national delegate for Barack Obama for Colorado's Fifth Congressional District to the Democratic National Convention in 2008, as a sighted companion for the 2012 Democratic National Convention, and as a facilitator for Dream City 2020 for the City of Colorado Springs. Presently, she remains active with numerous civic organizations and is a former board chair and active member of First Congregational Church.

An alumna of the University of Minnesota, Ms. Young received a Bachelor of Science in social work, magna cum laude, in 1977. Continuing her studies, she earned a Master of Arts in counseling and human services at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 1996 and was the recipient of the "Outstanding Graduate Student" award given by the School of Education. Eminently qualified in her field, Ms. Young is a professional certified coach through both the International Coaching Federation and the Co-Active Training Institute.
