NEW ORLEANS, LA, August 18, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thomas Louis Colletta, Jr. ("Louis") has been included in Marquis Who's Who. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in pre-law from McNeese University in 1994 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in civil law from Tulane University in 2000, Mr. Colletta began in the field as a law clerk for the chief judge of the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal. He subsequently gained valuable expertise in the field as executive assistant for United States Congressman Jimmy Hayes of Louisiana's Seventh Congressional District and a law partner with Lemle & Kelleher. Mr. Colletta further flourished in private practice with Beirne, Maynard & Parsons, which acquired Lemle & Kelleher in 2012 and subsequently Akerman, which acquired Beirne, Maynard & Parsons in 2016.
In recent years, Mr. Colletta served as the executive counsel for the Port of New Orleans & the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad and chief counsel for Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans ("LSUHSC-NO"). Backed by his professional excellence, he currently excels as the chief of staff for LSUHSC-NO. In his present position, Mr. Colletta handles many issues on behalf of the Chancellor and oversees the Departments of Human Resource Management, Property and Facilities, Creative Services and Marketing, and Records Management.
Driven to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Colletta has been affiliated with the hearing committee of the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel, the New Orleans Association of Defense Counsel and the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. Outside of his primary responsibilities, he contributes to others through the New Orleans Bar Association, the Association of Corporate Counsel and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. Additionally, Mr. Colletta has been involved with Homeless Experience Legal Protection or H.E.L.P. through which he provides free legal representation to homeless people on a monthly basis.
For his outstanding work in the field, Mr. Colletta was recognized as an AV-Rated Attorney through Martindale-Hubbell in 2011. He later accepted a Best Lawyers in America Award in 2013, which he has maintained that recognition since that time and was recently announced as Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers. Mr. Colletta was later honored as a Louisiana Super Lawyer in 2016 and a Top Lawyer between 2013 and 2017.
Although his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Colletta is incredibly proud of his work on the case Alexander v. Norfolk Southern, which involved the release of ethyl acrylic that occurred on September 18, 2001 in the eastern part of New Orleans. There were nearly 3,000 putative plaintiffs that were seeking class certification. As chief counsel for the defendants, he argued that the plaintiffs did not satisfy the typicality, commonality and numerosity requirements for class certification under Louisiana law. Looking ahead, Mr. Colletta intends to continue thriving in his role with LSUHSC-NO.
