WOOD RIVER JUNCTION, RI, August 19, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Lois A. Cuddy, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Cuddy celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now a retired educator, Dr. Cuddy taught for the Rhode Island Public School System in the city of Cranston during the late 1950s. She also briefly garnered experience in social work before becoming a teaching assistant in 1971 at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, while pursuing a doctorate degree. After receiving her Ph.D. at Brown, Dr. Cuddy was hired by the University of Rhode Island where she spent more than 20 years on campus. Hired as an assistant professor of English, she later became an associate and full professor in English and Women's Studies before retiring in 2000. Her success in teaching, research, and writing might well have been predicted in her early years as an exemplary student in middle and high school and in college.

In her academic role, Dr. Cuddy has authored and co-edited books on T.S. Eliot and Evolution in literature (e.g., T. S. Eliot and the Poetics of Evolution). She has also published many articles on American, British, and classical writers and on pedagogy since 1972. Her novel, Penelope's Song, based loosely on Homer's Odyssey, was published in 2015. Additionally, Dr. Cuddy was Assistant Editor and Acting Editor of American Transcendental Quarterly from 1978 to 1988 and remained on the Editorial Board until 2000. She was also an editorial reader for the journal Modern Language Studies from 1982 to 1990.

Active in the Women's Studies Program, the Instructional Development Program, Honors Program, and GLBTQ Committee on her campus, Dr. Cuddy also participated in her department's administration and committees, campus committees, R.I. library lecture programs and Humanities lecture programs. She also delivered professional papers at conferences in this country and abroad.

Dr. Cuddy studied at Rhode Island College where she achieved a Bachelor of Education degree in 1956. More than a decade later, she returned to college, completing a Master of Arts degree at the University of Rhode Island in 1970 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in American literature at Brown University in 1976.

Dr. Cuddy's professional memberships include the Modern Language Association, the T. S. Eliot Society, the Nathaniel Hawthorne Society, and the Louisa May Alcott Society.

Among her honors, Dr. Cuddy is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and received the University of Rhode Island's prestigious Teaching Excellence Award. She was also an Honors Teaching Fellow and received several Summer Faculty Research Grants. As a graduate student at Brown University, she was awarded the Jean Starr Untermeyer Fellowship for dissertation research. Later, as a faculty member at the University of Rhode Island, she was a Lilly Foundation Teaching Fellow and a Woodrow Wilson Fellow at the Institute on Interpreting the Humanities. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Cuddy has been cited in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the East.
