Deborah Palmieri has been inducted into the Marquis Who's Who Registry

Ms. Palmieiri is a career special education teacher working with students aged 14-21

HAMMONTON, NJ, August 20, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Deborah Palmieri has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now retired, Ms. Palmieri celebrates more than four decades of service as a special education teacher on behalf of her students, school and profession. As a high school student, she noticed a group of her classmates attended segregated, differentiated special education classes, and enjoyed helping them with homework during lunch breaks. Ms. Palmieri's experiences with this group of students helped her realize her calling to teach and help others achieve their full academic potential, and she earned a Bachelor of Science in special education from Glassboro State College.

In 1977, Ms. Palmieri began what would become a decades-long career at Vineland High School, working with students between the ages of 14 and 21 who had moderate to severe learning disabilities and intellectual disabilities. She created and pioneered Project Rainbow, an integrative life skills curriculum that incorporated food service, horticulture, factory work and other basic self-care into traditional academics. As an advocate for her students and for special education programs as a whole, Ms. Palmieri has been an active member of the Council for Disabled Children since 1979.

Ms. Palmieri attributes her success to her early mentor, Dr. Lang , whose positivity and support helped her grow into the professional that she is today. She holds an additional professional certification in family life, and is currently working to create a series of illustrated Shakespeare books appropriate for older students with lower-level reading ability. Ms. Palmieri is the founder of Saint Mary of Mount Carmel Bereavement Ministry, and has been presented with numerous awards for her service to the school and community, including the 1981 Jaycees Rotary Club Woman of the Year Award, recognition as the 2003 Cumberland County Teacher of the Year and Vineland's 2014 Hometown Hero Award. She is a member of the honorable society of Alpha Delta Kappa, where she currently served as the President of the local chapter.
