Piran R. Kidambi has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Kidambi is a chemical/process engineer and an assistant professor at Vanderbilt University

NASHVILLE, TN, August 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Piran R. Kidambi has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Kidambi is an engineer and assistant professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at Vanderbilt University, with which he has taught since 2017. His research is focused on utilizing process engineering and materials science concepts at an atomic scale to create novel materials for use in energy, healthcare, and electronics applications. Among other projects, Dr. Kidambi is currently a part of a major project on the development of membrane technologies for next-generation fuel-cells and flow-batteries to allow for transformative advances in emission-less clean transportation and large-scale grid energy storage to aid climate change mitigation.

Prior to his work in academia, Dr. Kidambi was an assistant manager in the projects management team at the specialty papers and paperboard division of ITC LTD. Recognized as a developing authority in his specialty of chemical/process engineering, he has found success as a guest editor for several scientific journals and a member of the early career editorial board of Chemical Engineering General Advances. Likewise, Dr. Kidambi has been invited to serve on the National Graphene Council and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences' user executive committee.

Born and raised in India, Dr. Kidambi earned a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering at the National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli before moving to Switzerland to pursue a Master of Science in process engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. He obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in engineering from the University of Cambridge, and continued postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology through a Lindemann Trust Fellowship. Dr. Kidambi considers the diversity of his background with the specialization in material science, mechanical, electrical, chemical and process engineering to have been the key to his approach to the field.

Dr. Kidambi is grateful for his exposure to a diversity of engineering theories. He credits his success to his childhood curiosity and the support of his parents, who encouraged his exploration, even when, as he recalls, "he would take apart things that could not be put back together." Dr. Kidambi is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Material Research Society, American Vacuum Society, and the North American Membrane Society.

Dr. Kidambi considers his greatest accomplishment thus far to have been his work on the development of fully-functional single-atom thick membranes and moving it beyond the laboratory context, emphasizing that witnessing his discoveries scaled up to real-world, market-ready applications has been deeply satisfying. He hopes to see his team's research make a tangible impact on some of the problems facing global industries within the coming years. In recognition of the advances that he has made in membrane development, Dr. Kidambi has been awarded the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the ECS Toyota young investigator fellowship and a 2018 grant on behalf of the ACS Petroleum Research Fund.
