Mr. Mayes began his corporate career working as a regional sales manager in finance with Borg-Warner Acceptance Corporation for nearly 20 years. He subsequently served almost another 20 years as a regional vice president of General Electric Capital Corporation, and he was employed as a vice president of marketing at ICC Business Credit and a regional vice president of Florida First Capital Finance Corporation.
Deciding to further support his community, he currently excels as the economic development and ecological tourism sustainability manager for the City of Deltona. Ultimately in his career, Mr. Mayes strives to affect positive change and improve the quality of life for families in his community.
As an "applied economist", Mr. Mayes bas developed knowledge for properties, land outlay, zoning, and all of the potential developments available on the market within the city. His position is important because he is able to contribute to job creation for local citizens, which directly translates to a better quality of life and wealth creation.
Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his work in health services, industrial (logistics) recruitment, his part in the development of the Portland Industrial Park, and the development of Ecological Tourism, benefiting the City's residents and visitors with a "Natural Quality of Life". The highlight of the City's health services industry was a new 99 bed hospital, a full emergency room, and a 55,000-square-foot Class A medical office building. On the industrial side, he assisted in the development of the Portland Industrial Park and helped recruit the 1.4 million square foot Amazon.com logistics facility, which has created 1,000 new jobs. Amazon.com was the "first float in the parade", and Portland Industrial Park continues to grow.
Mr. Mayes is devoted to workforce development and career enhancement for the City's citizens. He works with the Volusia County School District in their Academy Programs, which are nationally recognized, and institutions of higher learning for workforce development.
For his exceptional efforts over the years, Mr. Mayes has been recognized as the Economic Developer of the Year by Volusia League of Cities, the Employee of the Year by the City of Deltona, and Salesman of the Year at Borg-Warner Acceptance Corporation. In order to remain aware of developments in his field, he maintains his professional affiliation with the International Economic Development Council, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the Florida Brownfields Association, the Florida Redevelopment Association, the Team Volusia Economic Development Practitioners Council (where he has twice served as the Chairperson), and the Municipal Economic Development Organization.
